Getting started with orange...

My biggest accomplishment of the week was not anything in orange; it was seeing my mom get through two months of a hip fracture, surgery, and two bouts of C-diff, and get to bring her home to her assisted living place!  It was such a celebration there - all those lovely caregivers saying, "Sharon's back!  Welcome back, Sharon!  We've missed you, and we're so glad to see you!"  It really touched my heart.

Because it's been a busy week I haven't had much sewing machine time, so it's a good thing I enjoy hand-piecing!  Each month I've been stitching eight 3.5 inch bowtie blocks in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color of the month, and here are the orange ones for May.

There are 40 so far for the first five months of the year.  I love these little blocks!

I did manage to sew up an orange star for the next Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL house.

Orange is such a happy color!

Pieces and parts are cut and ready to sew up to finish this one, as soon as I get some sewing time.

Today we're taking a road trip east again, out to Kansas to visit our younger son, so I'll be offline for most of the day.  Hopefully, I'll get a chance to visit some blogs later this afternoon or evening.  Have a great day!

I'm so pleased your Mother is happy and healthy again, and has settled back into her home. This must have been a worrying couple of months for you. I love bow tie blocks too, think it was one of the first projects I did when I started RSC stitching.

So glad your mother has been able to successfully finish her rehab and is back home. You've made a good start on your orange scraps. Hopefully you had safe travels. Enjoy the time with your family.

So glad your mom is home. She is fortunate to have you supporting her! An advocate that loves you is the best kind. I am avoiding orange and quilted a red and blue quilt this week. I think it still counts as RSC since they were colors earlier in the year! Have a great week!

I am thrilled that your Mom is home! What a wonderful blessing! I am privileged to have my own Mom (92 years young) to be staying with me for a couple of weeks. Yes...it messes with the routine, but time and fam are very precious! :)

Such good news for your mom to get back to her home, albeit an assisted living home. I'm sure she is happy to be back. I'm surprised you got any sewing done with a busy week. Love those little bow ties. I've pulled out a bunch of bowtie blocks I have and have started making more so I can make a scrappy bow tie quilt. One of these days it'll be done. Love the little orange bowties.

and that house - the orange is perfect in it!!

I'm sure your mom is SO grateful to be back home again. That sounds like a really miserable 2 months.

Love the framed star blocks but the bowties are just the best. I've made a couple of small bowtie quilts, and had forgotten how much I like them.

I know you're relieved that your mother is on the mend -- and how nice for her to get a warm welcome "home." The bow tie rings are so colorful!

My mother’s name is Sharon, too! So glad she’s well enough to go back “home” and that she was welcomed so warmly on her return. It sounds like she’s been through quite a lot lately. Your bow tie blocks look delightful!
