I Like Thursday #214

 Good morning!

This time of year brings some pretty sunrises to my neighborhood.  You probably can't tell, but the house across the way there still has the Christmas lights on - kind of fun to see at 7 am on a December morning!

I love Christmas trees and lights.  I finally got my tree decorated late last week, and it is a pretty sight in our living room!

No Christmas is complete without the Nativity set up either.  My dad made this for us around 1978 or so.  I love it because it's different and unique.

Have you read Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng?  My book club read it last year sometime and thought it was an interesting story.   This week I discovered that Reese Witherspoon has made a miniseries out of the story where she plays one of the main characters and Kerry Washington (of "Scandal" fame) plays the other main character.  It's pretty good, and has entertained us all week!  It streams on Hulu.

I love my local public library and always have a long list of books on hold that I am waiting my turn to read.  Sometimes, by the time I get the email that a book is ready for me to pick up, I have forgotten what the book was about!  This morning (Weds), I ran in to get the book that was ready for me, Piece of My Heart.  It was so fun to find my book on the Hold shelf, and think, "Oh wow!"

This is the last book in the series written by Mary Higgins Clark (who passed away in January) and her younger writing partner, Alafair Burke.  I've been looking forward to reading it!

And one last little thing to share.  I always enjoy sewing binding, and here's what I've been sewing this week.

How about some frosted trees and peppermint striped binding, just for fun?!

Thanks for visiting on I Like Thursday!

Your tree is spectacular! Yes, I did read Little Fires Everywhere! I haven’t seen the mini series yet. We are still kneedeep in Homeland!
The binding is so Christmas-y! Love it!

What a pretty tree! I feel the same about Christmas lights. My husband and I saw some gorgeous lights after we took the littles home last week. We are planning to put up our tree today/tomorrow - yay! Thanks for the book reference - you always have the best ones. I didn't know about that series and am now looking forward to starting the first one!

I love sunrises and sometimes I think if there is snow on the ground it makes for better ones. What a pretty tree, I turn my outside lights on in the early afternoon but shut them off when I got to bed, but the old fashioned street lantern shuts off by itself and I don't know what time it does that and now the fairy lights stay on all the time unless you manually shut them off and I'm not going to bother to do that so they will stay on. I will check out the books references and the mini series I like both of those actresses.

Pretty tree and nativity which is so special, Diann. I read a lot of Mary Clark Higgins in the old days and I thought when I saw her name, is she still writing! I wonder about that collaboration with a younger author. Btw, your diamonds are very pretty. Will they be a hanging?

Your tree is beautiful, and yes - there have been some lovely sunsets and sunrises this year! I'm hoping I get books for Christmas because I need something good to read. Fun that you have books on request at the library, and they surprise you now and then! Striped binding and frosted trees - what could be better?!

What a lovely sunrise. I had Little Fires in my first batch of books picked up from the library last May when they finally opened, but couldn't renew it at the time. It's had a holds list every time I've checked since then. I'm trying to keep a good stash of possible reads in case the library gets shut down again. Your tree looks vry nice. I just have several table top tress.

Hi Diann! Oh, your tree is just gorgeous. I just love looking at Christmas trees all decorated and just the decorations in general. Beautiful sunrise as well - it looks like there was going to be a storm later that day with the red sky (sailor take warning). Mary Higgins Clark and Alarair Burke - that's a great combination of writers. I will have to go check out that book. I hadn't heard that she passed away. Darn. What a fun, festive binding to be working on now. ~smile~ Roseanne

I hope to be binding a quilt by next week. The sunrise photo is so pretty. And I love your tree. I did not decorate as much as I usually do, so it's been nice to see everyone else's decorations.

Such a beautiful pic of your tree! I love the way you caught the lights! And striped (and plaid!) binding is the best! I keep making a mental note to stock up on those fabrics just for bindings!

I love your nativity it is so neat. The tree is awesome and Thank Goodness for libraries during the pandemic. Ours is back to just drive up, they run your book out and fling it through the car window at you. Well maybe not fling. :D Love the back of whatever you made and the binding. Can't wait to see the finish!

You've got a magical Christmas tree this year. It is a great time of year for beautiful sunsets, but it's too cold to go out and enjoy them! Nothing better than a good book, a cup of hot tea while snuggling under a quilt. Hope you have lots of happy moments this week.

Love your nativity, looks peaceful. I've got a special ne also made by my friend's father-in-law. It's quite rustic looking and speaks to me too. That peppermint binding is perfect and so is that backing!
