I Like Thursday #187 - Inside and Out

After finishing up my Centred flimsy (see a photo of it here on my Tuesday post), I've just been playing with some little things in the sewing room.  I really like doing that - it feels like a reward for having accomplished something big!

I stitched up the May Color Challenge block, from Patterns by Jen.

🎡🎢 "She's a wild one!"🎢🎡
That background fabric makes this block a bit wild!

But she fits in with all the others I've made for this year long BOM.  I've been going with very saturated colors for each block, and I think it's working.  Here you can see the five blocks for the year on my design wall.

I've been sewing some of my scrappy rainbow of 4 patches into double 4 patches with the light blue background squares, too.   I think I'll shoot for at least 80 of these
for an 8 x 10 layout.

Awhile back I had made a bunch of tiny bowtie blocks, and they've been waiting around to be used for something.  I decided little 5 inch mug mats would be fun!

Cute!

There are three more ready to be finished up.

This week's book:  The Book of Lost Friends, just finished yesterday.  It was so good that I shed a few tears when I learned the ending of the story.

I really enjoy historical fiction because it's generally based on a true story, which you find out about in the author's note at the end of this book.  It also takes place in two time periods - one main character lives in 1875, and in alternating chapters you also read about a main character in 1986.
Of course, the two stories come together in the end!

One day last week, Mike and I went for a little drive that involved a picnic!  We love picnics, but, of course, hadn't gone on one yet this spring.  We had a tailgate picnic at a local natural area.

Hello, friends!  Our car works pretty well for that purpose!

After lunch, we walked on the path around the lake, and saw some interesting sights.  This cormorant must have been drying his wings in the sun.

And I love this picture that Mike got of what turned out to be a Monarch butterfly!

It was really nice to get out and see a little of the world that wasn't the grocery store!

Hope you've had a great week!  I'm joining in with the "I Like Thursday" bloggers at Not Afraid of Color.

Also sharing my Color Challenge block at the May link-up at Patterns by Jen.

I just checked for the book and put myself on the wait list for it at the library - it will be awhile but thanks for the recommendation

Love the photo of you on your tailgate! Just being outside is always precious but even more so these days, isn't it? I absolutely love your pbj blocks!! Those are really calling to me lately after seeing Janine and Pat's progress in Rachel's online colour course.

Hi Diann! I just LOVE all five of your monthly blocks together. It won't be long and you'll be adding the June block to your design wall. Oh, those little bowtie blocks look so darn cute as a mug mat. The penguins really make me smile! A tailgate picnic sounds like just the ticket. I haven't had my car out of the garage since mid-April. I'm thinking it needs to go for a drive and maybe a picnic! Take care and stay safe. ~smile~ Roseanne

We got out Sunday for a long walk, so good to feel the sun on my skin! But now we are headed for a bunch of rain, so it's going to turn out to be a wet week, and cool temps are back, but not down to the 30's like the beginning of the month! Cute mug rugs! I love the penguin in the finished one. LOL

That tiny mug rug is the cutest!!! I just finished The Book of Lost Friends last week, and enjoyed it also. Those cormorants! We don't have them around here, but I've seen them near DH's hometown in CA.
