Working on a WiP

This week I wanted to pull out a WiP from 2019 that has some sage green in it.  I started making these Northern Lights blocks from Nickel Quilts by Pat Speth in January last year.  Two 5 inch print squares and two 5 inch background squares make an 8 inch finished block.

These blocks have been a "make a few whenever I feel like it" project, and by January of this year, I had made 26 blocks, and planned for 48 total.  All kinds of scraps in mellow shades of blue, green, and gray are going into this quilt.

Those dark blocks are either dark blue or dark green.

This week I've made a few more blocks, focusing on a bit of fabric I'm calling Sage Green!

This is a really pretty floral that doesn't show up well in this photo.

How about a close-up?

Now there are 36 blocks, and I've run out of my background fabric - Grunge White Paper.  Oops!

This 6 x 6 layout wouldn't be bad, and I could add borders, too.

I think I'll start sewing these together!  Sharing at SoScrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday!

Love these blocks Dianne. So many different secondary patterns. I like blocks that are somewhat simple to construct and these seem to fit the bill. Very nice1

I really like those colors together. Will you order more Grunge? I wish I had bolts and bolts of every color of Grunge.

The current setting makes a nice design, Diann. LOVE the soothing colors that you are working with! Best of luck on finding borders to go with (or MORE of the Grunge background to add to the quilt.)

Another fun project happening in your quilt room! At least you ran out of background when you have the right number of blocks to make a top! This will be a fun finish soon!

Running out of background fabric sounds like a great reason to start sewing blocks together. What a soothing color collection. Lovely.

Pretty blocks, lovely palette. Going to make a very nice quilt. Great job, Diann! I love how that block plays with the others making a secondary design.

I really like those blocks! And I think I even have Par Spaeth’s book! I hope you can find a border fabric you like. It’s a winner, for sure,

Your blocks are so lovely and calming. 6x6 looks charming, and no one else need ever know you ran out of background!
