A sandy finish!

There is not a beach anywhere near my house in landlocked Colorado, but if there was one, yesterday would have been the day to go!

So instead, I took the finished beach landscape out into my backyard for some photos.  I like the look of the dark blue binding which matches the border to finish off the edges.

This project came from a kit that I bought on our vacation to Oregon in September, and it included all the fabric for the quilt, except for the backing.  I had never tried a landscape quilt before and it has been a fun sewing experience!

The pattern designer, Karen Eckmeier, has a great website with galleries of finished landscapes for inspiration.  The Quilted Lizard.

For the backing I dug into my stash and used up some larger chunks of sandy prints - footprints and shells.

Click to enlarge and you can see the quilting I did that
follows the shapes of the sand dunes and ocean waves.

It was a beautiful day out in our yard when I took these photos and this little quilt went well with the leaves that are falling!

It's also a great souvenir of our trip to a favorite place!

A beautiful reminder of a favorite beach. We had a gorgeous 75 here in eastern SD yesterday. It was a picture perfect fall day, and I think we are at our peak fall colors this weekend.

It’s a beautiful wall hanging, Diann. And a lovely photo op in your yard. It is leaf raking time here too. I hope we can do it in small batches.

What a stunning landscape you created, Diann. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could walk into the landscapes of our imaginings.

Wow 88 degrees! It was the perfect day to pull up a lawn chair sit back and enjoy your beautiful quilt. Woo Hoo on the finish! I love how you pieced the sandy backing too; it reminds me of wet and dry sand on the beach.

Wow to 88 degrees. It is just 6C here today and raining so not a very nice Sunday. However, I enjoyed seeing your beautiful finish and photographed in that pretty setting outside. What a great souvenir too!

What a lovely project. Having a kit to get started creating landscape quilts is a good idea. Will you be making more? Maybe capturing the landscape nearer to home?

How big did your landscape quilt finish? I hope you get to enjoy seeing it hanging in your home to help offset the distance you are from the beach. Congratulations on the lovely finish!
