I had a quick finish for my Table Scraps project this month because I started with an orphan block, and it was even just about the perfect size! This was a test block for the rectangle strings quilt top I put together earlier this year, and it didn't make the cut.
All this needed was batting, backing, quilting, and binding which took about two of my "15 Minutes to Stitch" sessions!
Finished!
Here's the back.
And now there are five!
Working on this made me think about the string quilt top that's been patiently waiting its turn in the queue for finishing, so I got it out. It was fun to photograph it out on the grass underneath our pretty blooming crab apple!
And then I got inspired to work on finishing this one!
I have the backing and batting for it, so no reason not to!
More about this to come.

Diann, what you manage to do with scraps is amazing! I love this red placemat but then I look at all your placemats and that quilt! The color set up is perfect! Have a great day!!!
Another beautiful placemate, Diann!! Great use of an orphan block. Your RSC String quilt is beautiful, I am glad you will finish it.
What pretty red fabrics! Glad your weather cooperated long enough to photograph your strings. :)
a good way to use a block that doesn't make the cut to the big quilt!
Love your placemat collection and can't wait to see the quilt finished!
great use for an orphan block - and that quilt will be a great quilt when finished
Pretty placement and I'm amazed that it only took 2 x 15mins sessions to finish! The string quilt is gorgeous ... I probably love it because I love anything STRINGS! Have a great weekend!
Lovely placemat to join the others; they make a very colourful collection. Have fun finishing the string quilt.
congrats on your fast finish and pulling out another to finish! awesome!
Love the table topper! So fun when they are all ready to go and an orphan block is rescued from the basket and put to use.
I'm a sucker for strings. This looks lovely (as do the rest of the pieces).
Oh, your placemat is great! I need to hear how you ready your quilt for quilting! I’m such a novice at doing my own quilt size project! I just put them off and put them off!
What a nice placemat collection, and they are so versatile. You can use them as placemats, or use one for a quick table topper. They are such a quick, satisfying finish, too. Yay for having the batting, backing and inspiration to finish the string quilt. Cheering you on from MN!
What a colorful and lovely collection you have--that red one is really pretty.
Have a great weekend..hugs, Julierose
Wonderful finish and awesome project to be next in line.
It's so nice you found a home for such a pretty orphan block. Good luck on the string top. It is so worth quilting!
Good idea to use orphan blocks for placemats. I just never get around to getting my table toppers started or finished lately.
Oh, I love your rectangular string top! Have fun quilting!
What a great addition to your placemat collection! They are cheerful and fun!
Let's hear it for a quick TABLE SCRAPS Challenge finish!! Nice work, Diann.
Having a quick finish is essential once in a while! Placemats are always fun to put together. I love seeing your collection!
What a lovely placemat! Not good enough for one quilt but just perfect for another project! Great job! Every time I see string projects I'm itching for stitching up a new project. Your post today is no exception. Gosh, I want a quilt like yours! I need to stay focus and finish a few things first. But soon ... soon. ;^)
Your table scraps sure are beautiful!

all the different colors combo..have a great day!
Great use of that orphan block. Let nothing go to waste :)
Thanks for linking up with oh Scrap!
Lucky you to have an orphan bock ready and waiting for your Table Scraps project. I'm still trying to come up with an idea. I have some red crumb blocks. Maybe I can use them.
Pat
Your String Quilt turned out beautifully and so did the place mat. Hope you've been able to make progress on finishing off the quilt and have had time to enjoy spending time with your Mom and still getting in some stitching time.
Ooh, what a pretty string quilt there on the grass! Your placemat from its orphan block is perfect!
