Little Penguin Quilts Through the Year

Little Penguin Quilts Through the Year

It all started with a red zipper...

Oh, and some penguin fabric!

Thanks to Wendy of Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life, who sent me these fun penguins last year sometime!  They've been marinating for awhile, until this week and I decided I had to drop everything and make...

an Open Wide Zipper Pouch!  This tutorial from Noodlehead is the very first zipper pouch I ever made, and I'm sure this won't be the last one.  You can never really have too many of these, right?  I hadn't made one of these in awhile, so I struggled a bit with getting the zipper sewn in correctly, but it all worked out in the end.

This measures about 8.5 inches wide by 7.5 tall.  I made it to my own dimensions, based on the fabric I had and added the contrasting bottom just for fun!

The lining is a fun black on white swirls.

This was a true DrEAMi project - started last Sunday, finished on Monday!

To finish out the month of May, this week I completed all of the arrows for the Follow Your Own Path QAL, also at mmmquilts.  Time to get those rows together with the gray background!

In scrappy sewing this week, I added a couple more exclamation marks to the collection for this month's Full Stop row.

And two more crumb hearts, this time in pink!

The Harmony Hand-pieced QAL is coming to an end with the final link-up already up at Elm Street Quilts.  I finished up the quilting on my version this week, and all that's left is to sew the binding.  That will be this weekend's slow-stitching job!

That looks to be a more manageable pattern than the first zipper pouch I ever tried (and is still in pieces). Thanks for the link. Oh, LOVE the penguins!

Adorable zipper pouch. Wonderful to see you managed some quality time getting your sewing mojo on! Love your scrappy little hearts. Guess we'll probably hear from Angela soon for June's color.

Your pinguin fabric is your trade marker and your zipper pouch is so pretty and super useful.
Well, I am in love with your crumb hearts, great and beautiful use of those tiny pieces.
Isn't it great to have a lovely quilt ready for some slow binding stitching?
Beautiful projects Diann!
Have a great weekend.

“Oh Cute! “ to quote a granddaughter! What a fun DrEAMi project! And your hand piecing project is nearly done! Won’t it be fun to do some purple sewing?

Zippers and scraps are a deadly combination - well, at least a fertile one for squirrels. Ask me how I know :-) Love the hearts - each made up of so many fabrics...like our hearts with more than one love.

I am always impressed by a hand pieced quilt. To me that is a huge accomplishment. It looks wonderful Dianne. I am looking forward to moving on to purple for June. :-)

I like your pouch,it's such fun with the penguins. I used that pattern once too, and remember that it came together easily, quite something, because sewing zips makes me nervous! I really should make another.

Ooh - pretty pouch. I like the exclamation points, and the hearts.

That is a perfect little zip pouch for you if ever there was one! My favorite, though, is the scrappy hearts project with the delightful HSTs as a border. OMG, that just screams HAPPY!

Beautiful projects! It's such an accomplishment to finish a hand pieced and hand quilted quilt! But what really stole my heart is your penguin pouch.

Looks like you had a wonderful time playing with the penguins and zipper. The bag is very nice. Your scrappy hearts are coming along as are all of your scrappy projects. Are you still limiting yourself to 15 minutes per day?

My goodness, you are one busy lady & all your makes look amazing. Well done & take care.

Wow, you were busy this week. Must be a sign that your Mom is settling in nicely. I haven't put a zipper in anything since my garment sewing days many decades ago. I need a new everyday purse, so I should bite the bullet and try one with a zipper. And those hearts are really cute.

Great job, Diann. I love that you used a red zipper and not a black one. It adds a pop of colour that is fun! Love your scrappy hearts too. Have fun with the new colour of the month. ;^)

So many great projects! I love the zipper pouch. Zippers intimidate me but someday I would like to try a little purse.

So much eye candy here! I made my first Open Wide pouch last summer for Brady for his toiletries for junior High as per his request! It’s a great pattern and I need to make one for myself! Live that penguin fabric. I love your crumb hearts and the arrow and of course that Harmony quilt oh MY. Thanks for linking up with DrEAMi!
