With October starting, I've been wanting to work toward finishing a quilt, and this week I've stayed focused on that goal.
These blocks were made mostly in 2020 as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project, and sat in a project box for most of this year.
The blue is a Grunge I purchased for another project and didn't use,
and I made these blocks until I ran out of it!
It didn't take long to get them sewn into a small quilt top - 43 x 49.
Hunting through my stash for a backing unearthed this adorable fabric that I had purchased from Bernie during her shop closing sale. It's called "Little Red" by Meags & Me for Clothworks Fabrics. You can see the whole line of it here at Fat Quarter Shop.
It needed to be bigger to work for a backing, so I added some green and gray Grunge that I had.
Quilting is happening (my favorite, simple diagonal grid through the blocks), and hopefully won't take too long. I need a "Nothing but Sewing" day, but haven't had the chance for something like that in awhile!
Some little penguins waving hello!
Meanwhile, I've been mulling over my other RSC projects for the year, and thinking about what they need in terms of colors and blocks. The Scrappy Trips hand-pieced quilt definitely needs two more blocks so I can have 20 altogether.
There are two blocks of every color except for blue (3) and I made one "dark neutral" block (brown) when we had that month.
An additional green block would fit in, but I'm not sure I have enough greens left to make one yet. A light neutral block would definitely work, though, so I did a fabric pull for that and just need to spend some time cutting the squares.
Hoping to get some time to work on that today!

Gosh I love your four patch quilt! I love the little red riding hood fabric too! Diagonal quilt lines are my favorite too! I love watching your creative process! Have a fun sewing day!
I hope you get that day long sewing day soon! Before long you will have a wonderful finish and feel so very accomplished:)
I knew that 4-patch was going to be gorgeous. I love the backing, the colors are just perfect. The patterns formed on the Scrappy Trip are so pretty!
I love that Little Red fabric - I had a mini charm package with some of that in it last year I think. I have to go through all my RSC projects and get them finished up too - will not do 3 next year!
Your double 4-patch is sweet, Dianne. A good way to use up scraps with a fun result. Have fun with the last two blocks of the Scrappy Trip.
I love your RSC blocks. That's a great design for a scrappy quilt.
every stage of the 4 patch has looked so good.
That four patch is looking great! Have fun with the trip quilt - it is looking lovely.
Cute little 4-Patch quilt. Love the "Little Red" fabric line. Hope you will find some more green to finish your other RSC quilt. You are so close to the finishing line. Enjoy! ;^)
Your 4-patch is terrific. I think we all could use a "nothing but sewing" day right about now. I think your scrappy trips could use another red block, but I like brighter things, so take that with a grain of salt. Good luck finishing up!
That 4-patch is cute as can be, and I love the blue grunge background. I'm a big chicken when it comes to using color in a background. I don't trust my choices I guess.
Look at you go! Four patches on blue will be a great baby quilt! The backing is cool too! I used some Little Red in a pink colorway for my youngest great granddaughter’s new baby quilt. I still have a few pieces left that find their way into blocks now and then!
Ummmm! I have some light green scraps. I’d send some if you’d like to add a light/ lime green scrappy trips block!
Congrats on getting that RSC quilt top together, Diann! That Little Red fabric is a sweet choice for the backing. Happy piecing on those last two Scrappy Trips blocks that you need!
The scrappy trips is going to be gorgeous! Is it really piecing by hand? also admire the soft blue alternate squares as background in your four patch quilt.
I just love to follow your projects!
The double 4 patch top is fabulous... it has so much movement and I am fascinated by how the aqua colour makes your eyes see the white chain instead of the colour chain! Such a fun backing fabric too!
great job on getting RSC2020 moved along! I love your scrappy trips around the world!
Your 2020 RSC quilt is so cheerful. That blue grunge fabric works perfectly!
The Double Four Patch turned out so cute. And what a perfect backing you found for it.
And your handsewn TATW blocks are impressive!
Its always fun seeing these lovely RSC projects together, there will be a lot of that happening very soon, I expect.
It's that time of year that we get to see the annual (or from a couple of years ago) RSC quilts come together. I like the blue as the background of the 4-patch scrappy quilt. It pulls it all together. NICE!
I love your top! And the next scrappy project looks like it is on track to be a beauty too.
Gorgeous scrap quilt and quilt blocks! I love the little penguins waving at us. The blue fabric was perfect for that quilt.
I have been evaluating all of my RSC projects too. I love seeing all the pretty scrappy quilts start showing up in blogland. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!
Those four patches are terrific. The RSC blocks and projects always awe me and this one does too!
The 4 patch quilt came together beautifully. I love that Little Red backing fabric. YOu are being wise to start rounding up and deciding on how to finish up those RSC projects.
Thanks for your blog, I really like it
