I Like Thursday #118

Happy Thursday, friends!  Were you able to see the eclipse on Sunday night?  Our skies cleared just as the moon was rising, so over the course of a couple of hours, we went from this -

to this -

                                                                        to this!

It was quite spectacular, and Mike had fun playing with his camera throughout the whole time.

At our house this week, we embarked on an update of my sewing room.  While our kids were growing up, we used the space for a family room, but it has been my sewing space for about 10 years now, and it's definitely in need of some work!
Hauling out unneeded items, a fresh coat of paint, and rearranging the furniture will make a huge difference!

We're in the stage of hauling out the unneeded items - like these crates of books leftover from my teaching career.

It's hard to get rid of books that you love, but we took them to our Friends of the Library group for their sale, and I do like the idea that some young family will take them home to read to their children.

I also *like* that feeling of cleaning out a corner of a room that can now be put to much better use!  More to come on this project in the future!

Speaking of the library - I recently checked out a book that I'm really enjoying!

Kate Morton is really good at weaving together a story with multiple characters who come together from both the past and the present with a little mystery involved, and even a ghost!

We've been enjoying this show on Tuesday nights on PBS the last couple of weeks.

This week's episode was about Christiane Amanpour, Ann Curry, and Lisa Ling - all women journalists who I didn't really know anything about, but whose family stories were really interesting!

And finally, I found this fat quarter of text fabric recently that I wanted to share.

Not sure what I will use it for yet, but I'll enjoy having it in my stash!  :)

I saw the moon the other night briefly and it was wonderful. I hope the remake of your sewing area will bring you a lot of happy quilts! it is always nice to work out of a space you enjoy being in

I would have stayed up for the eclipse but I had a 5 a.m. wakeup and since I would have to drive after DH's eye exam I couldn't afford to be sleepy. The moon itself was stunning. I hope you will keep sharing your updates in the sewing room.

I love a good text fabric, and that one is wonderful! I'm excited to see more of your studio clean up, too. It's really fun to watch other people remodel :)

love all of that! I am watching Roots too and it's fascinating. I want his team to find me a family! The fabric is great, letting young families have your books is a good thing, and reclaiming space in a fresh way will feel terrific

I saw the moon briefly, it was pretty neat looking! I love that adventure text fabric, the Lord of the Rings quote always makes me smile. I'm glad you're getting your sewing room space re-organized! I love the feeling of getting rid of stuff you don't need, but books are always the hardest!

Too cloudy to see the moon for us. I felt a tug at my heart when I saw your books donation...I have a huge tote with my favorites since I retired 5 years ago. I guess it's time to donate them to my Book Nook cart at our children's hospital. If we ever have grandchildren, I guess I'll have to buy them something new! Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm excited to see your remodel plans. We did peek at the eclipse the other night, but it was so cold we didn't want to go out much. Thankfully we could see it from a bedroom window. I love that text fabric! Thanks for the heads up on the book and the show.

I have that book on my Goodreads 'to read' list. Better to have your books shared right now then boxed up for someday. I was too tired to stay up for the eclipse and it was pretty cold here, even in TX where we are visiting. I checked out the images online the next day where there were some pretty creative shots framing the moon in different places. Looking forward to seeing your sewing studio remodel.

Hi Diann! What a fun post. That fabric is really cool - you'll have to use it somehow to show those clever sayings. That will be fun to determine - or save it for a bit for the perfect use to present itself. We missed the eclipse - too cloudy - but your photos are fab! Ahh yes, books from teaching. We have crates and crates in the garage from Sue's first grade class. She couldn't give them up . . . so I casually showed her your book stash and the worthy donation. My fingers are crossed for a similar donation here! Thanks for the book and TV show recommendations. ~smile~ Roseanne

All those books! I like that fabric. I've read one other Morton book - not bad. I've put the Clockmaker's Daughter on my reading list. Thanks!

I would definitely purchase that fat quarter if I saw it, too, knowing one day it'll be part of something grand. :-)

Yep stayed up and watched the moon. Oh I understand about getting rid of the books. My mom taught for 30 years she has a hard time getting rid of stuff too. Oh that fabric looks fabulous.
