Senior moments - do you have them? I sure do. Earlier this week I shared the red sixteen patch star that I had made. I'm happy with how it turned out, and I was thinking about how I now had four of these blocks.
Four? Did that mean I'd only have 10 or maybe 12 of them by the end of the year? That didn't seem right. Well, oops, I suddenly remembered I've been making two each month!
At the end of March:
So I had to figure out how to make another red block that was enough different from the original that you could tell the difference. I dug around in my Christmas drawer and found some reds with black and white and a text print and some plaids. I tried some different combinations.
It's a little busy, but it's a scrappy quilt, so I'm sticking with this. So now there are two red blocks!
And eight total.
And in other scrappy sewing - my leaders and enders have turned into Gameboard blocks which I discovered over at Sara's blog - My Sewing Room. I start with 2.5 inch four patches, then make them into 4.5 inch sixteen patches. Eventually the outer sections are added to end up with an 8.5 inch block.

Oh dear , dear Diann, why do you keep tempting me with new projects? Hee ! Hee! I just love your 16 patches. What fun and fabulous fabrics you chose for the red blocks.( You know I am partial to red). Now I am off to check out Sara's gameboard blocks. I am already digging for fabrics for the Orange Peel SAL after seeing your earlier post. LOL. Have a great weekend . Hugs.
I’m like you…a wide variety of scraps that never seem to end. Red is a hard colour to come up with two different colours ways…but you nailed it! I still need to do my red blocks. I’ve been getting ready for the quilt show first. Only one more sleeve to add. Gail at the cozy quilter.
Both your red star blocks look good and very different! :)
I love your reds and blacks, nice contrast! I could have told Melisa it is dangerous to visit your blog! Those gameboard blocks are still tempting me. Have a wonderful Easter! Is your live-in chef hosting the meal, or are you collaborating? :D
What fun blocks! I tend to sort reds into maroon and red, but my maroon fabrics have been depleted. Love those stars and I read back (I've not been reading blogs this week) to see that orange peel and the Easter display. Love them! Have a great weekend.
You've added some awesome blocks this week! Aren't those Gameboard block addictive?
The second red block looks great, Diann. Yes, I have senior moments. I was telling hubby the other day that we really need to write things down (he is worse than me). Love the 16-patch blocks as well. I wish I could organize myself for a lender/ender project.
those blocks go together so well - you could combine them into the same quilt.
oh and I have those senior moments all the darn time!
Senior moments are frequent! LOL Love the star blocks & the Game Board blocks. Super cute!
You remembered with plenty of time to spare, Diann!!! That's the important thing. I do love both of these scrap patterns you're using!!! I'll be pinning them for future RSC projects.
Way to many senior moments here! Love seeing the progress on those star blocks. I think I might have something similar started somewhere!!
Such beautiful star blocks, stitching two each month is a good idea.
Whoops! At least you figured out that you needed a second RED star before putting those scraps away, Diann. Have fun with your new Leader/Ender project!
You did a great job coming up with a different red. That's been a problem for Wild and Goosey, my solution has been to use reds with a lot of white in them. Your star blocks are very fun and so are you chess board blocks.
I love your scrappy star block. That one is tempting me.
Great job on coming up with a darker red for your star block! Those blocks are going to make a terrific quilt!
I love your 16 patch star blocks. I like your idea of doing two blocks a month. I apparently can't handle discipline and never completed even one RSC quilt. Maybe next year. Until then, I do admire all of you who are organized.
Your red star blocks are beautiful, Diann, and so are the gameboard blocks. Senior moments, what's that? LOL Yes, it happens to me too!
Wonderful scrappy blocks! And yes, I especially love the game square block. Oh, so tempting to use up fabrics, but I would end up cutting them. Senior moments abound.
