I am just about finished with my version of the Northern Lights pattern from the book Nickel Quilts by Pat Speth and Charlene Thode! I started this way back in early 2020 by making blocks like these out of 5 inch squares from my scraps in various blues, greens, grays, and Grunge White Paper for the background. Two print squares and two background squares make an 8 inch finished block.
Earlier this week, I finally pulled the quilt top made from these blocks out of time out, pieced a backing, and got the layers basted together. By Thursday afternoon, it was quilted, trimmed and binding was made!
February was a good month to work on this finish because there are lots of pretty aqua/teal/blue-greens in it.
The binding is this soft, marbled gray and was attached on Friday afternoon.
And now I'm ready for a weekend of slow stitching the final binding step!
Almost finished!

Yay for almost completing another UFO! That quilt is very pretty. I love the colors.
Good for you! I love the colors--reminds me of early Spring! You go girl! Have a great day Diann!
Another pretty UFO almost finished. Uh-hu!!!
yay! for your almost finish, love the secondary pattern that forms when the blocks are together!
A lovely quilt you've finished--congratulations!! Always a banner day to do that!! I like the soft teals and greens with the gray--have fun binding... hugs, Julierose
Such a pretty little finish! I love that block, and it looks so good in those aquas and greens. Good to get it out of the closet, too. And I love the serpentine stitch quilting!
Beautiful! I really love this pattern. Pinning!
Go, Diann, go!! A lovely quilt finish is on the horizon.
nice blocks - I think I have the book you mentioned but I don't know if I have actually used it (that happens a lot with me!)
Super quilt. Enjoy hand stitching that pretty grey binding down.
Wow it really changed the look when sewing all those blocks together. One can hardly see what the block looks like and a secondary pattern happened, very cool!
Wow, that turned out amazing. Vicki is right, the secondary pattern just pops out! Congrats on a super finish!!
Oh my! It's so pretty! I'm always surprised when a secondary design pops out when blocks are set together.
What a beautiful scrappy quilt! Perfect pattern!
Looking good! I especially like the white broken squares the blocks make! And the gray binding! Perfect!
Our quilt group had Pat Speth come and teach us a class. She was delightful, and her quilts are so cleverly done with those nickle squares! Nice finish, Diann!
Sweet little quilt! Feels good to get that one moved on, I'm sure. Great job. Guess I know what you'll be working on on Slow Stitching Sunday! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
What a beautiful pattern all those blocks make, and oh I love the colors, especially with the grays and the white Grunge. The marbled gray is the perfect binding. I bet some cozy stitching is going on this weekend. :)
I do like how those colors go together- nice and soft. I have her book, it may be time to look through it!
Beautiful quilt, lovely colors, great finish! Good idea to get it out of time out!

Love it! Using scraps and putting together something so pretty as this! You have skills! I rarely try to color-theme my scrappy quilts; I need to give this a try.
Wow, a very pretty quilt, I love this pattern! Cute fabrics in there too, love the little square flowers!
What a beautiful quilt! I love the pattern and it looks so serene and calm in your fabrics. Good for you!
Beautiful quilt, and congratulations on finishing up another UFO. I wish I could say the same! Happy stitching!
Great going, I'm sure that binding is stitched down now. It's always great to have a finish, isnt it.
So many pretty fabrics in this quilt, Diann. Love all those colours together. Enjoy stitching the binding.
I really love these blocks, Diann. I am going to have to pull my book out and revisit some of the designs. Have a lovely day and happy quilting
That turned out really nice Diann. Now you can settle in with some good movies over the weekend. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!
Such a pretty quilt this turned out to be. Enjoy your slow stitching on that binding.
Such calming colors. And the more I look at it the more secondary patterns I see in the design.
Those blocks are so calm all together! I like the quilting that you did and the binding that you added! An almost finish has to feel GREAT!
Your quilt turned out so pretty. I love all of those colors and the grey is perfect for the binding.
