About five years ago, I was playing with my green scraps and made this mini quilt that hangs on our dining room wall. It was fun to create the background with such a variety of greens from Spring green to very dark, and then add the vine and flowers.
This week I've been hunting through my stash for green scraps for a different purpose. When making the two blocks for my 16 patch star project, I need 15 3.5 inch squares that read as a similar shade. For example, these blue blocks made earlier this year:
It seems that my green scraps are making this week's sewing a little more challenging! First try for a dark green and a light green block:
Some of the dark greens read as almost black - hard to photograph!
The light greens range from bluish/almost grayish green to acid green. Ugh!
And how about this green? It could go in either block, right?!
A little adding and a little subtracting and I have a dark green 16 patch star that I'm very happy with.
The light green star block is still to be determined!
So now there are nine of these!

all the greens look really good! And I really like the last photo with the white stars
I find green is a finicky colour … hard to get them to play well together sometimes. With your light green block, I think I would stick with the spring greens…on the colour wheel, greens with more yellow in them, like the ones on the left side of your first picture of this post. Your star blocks look great together. Gail at the cozy quilter
Very nice green block! You did a great job. Do you have any bright greens, that could work for the second green block.
Love seeing your dining room mini again, so pretty. You did really good with your green 16 patch, very nice choices!
Good choices, the green block looks great.
The dark green block is just perfect. Good luck with the light green;)
I did a lot of sorting also with the green 2.5" squares and realized I had used up most of the lighter shades in other things. The mini with the green background is so pretty. I can understand why you have it hanging where you can enjoy it.
That green block looks great!
That wall hanging is really pretty. Greens are hard, most of mine are mid range. You did well to come up with so many of the light/dark.
Great job on getting all your greens to 'play nicely" together! :)
I had the same issues. Why are there so many different greens??? LOL Your set of star blocks look so great! Will you add sashing?
Lovely greens and in your capable quilty hands, beautiful blocks, Diann.
The dark greens are playing well together now, good eye!
You tamed those greens as they now play nicely with each other!
Your mini-quilt is so pretty with all its greens and so are your star blocks.
Your mini quilt is darling, Diann. I love how you arranged the greens from light to dark. The new star block is a delight!
Your deliberation paid off. The green block looks great and plays nicely with other eight.
Green is a tough colour. It is one of the rare colour that has "ugly" shades. We never say "this is an ugly red" but we say it often enough about green. Too bad you live so far, I would let you rummage my greens for what you need. You did a nice block with the darker green though. Good luck with the softer greens. ;^)
You've done a great job getting your greens to play well with each other. I keep throwing dark green into scrap quilts and then realize they read as black -- not what I want. But yours just sing together!
Your wall hanging is a very creative way of using scraps. I like the green star block. It may just be a feature in the quilt if you do not add another one. So far, it is looking great.
