I've been working on some more Glowing Hearts for the QAL at mmmquilts. I left off last week with four hearts made - two that are dark to light, and two that are light to dark.
The pattern design calls for five of the first set and four of the other. Because I'm working with a jelly roll, I'm ending up with four matching dark to light hearts - two more are in progress.
For the light to dark hearts, two will match and two will have a couple of slightly different stripes in the middle - the same colorway, but different prints. I think this will work just fine in the layout of nine hearts total.
The ninth heart goes in the center and will be different from these eight. I'm going to let the jelly roll strips tell me what they want to do for that one!
Next step is to add the background triangles to make the heart block shape. I have to be really careful with the sewing of these because I'm struggling a bit to get them on correctly so that there is a 1/4 inch seam allowance at the bottom. There has been some ripping and restitching which can be frustrating. But I'll get through this!

Beautiful colours in your glowing hearts! Gail at the cozy quilter
I have trouble with adding the triangles to pieces like that too. Can you oversize the white triangle and then trim it exactly or do you have them all cut already?
The glowing hearts are pretty, Diann. That jelly roll has some lovely fabrics in it. I have the same question as Vicki about making the white larger then cutting it down?
I love these hearts! It is wise to let the jelly roll strips speak to you. ;) Good luck with the quarter inch seam, I have had to make a custom fix on my machine for that. And I still sometimes have issues, but I think that is my inaccurate sewing.
I love the hearts and they look easy to make
Not losing the tip of a goose is a struggle for me too. Careful cutting stitching and pressing helps me struggle less. Jack (my seam ripper) is often more friendly than I would like to admit! Your hearts look marvelous!
Gorgeous hearts, Diann. Using a jelly roll makes it a bit quicker to piece the project. I just noticed the darling butterflies in your white fabric- how adorable. I have trouble with points. Sometimes my ripper comes out; sometimes not. LOL. Yours look amazing! Enjoy your day. Hugs.
What a great way to make a heart block! So colorful.
You picked a very pretty jelly roll for your hearts. It's fun to see how everyone is approaching the hearts. Hope the next few go smoothly for you.
You did a great job of dividing your jelly roll into lights, mediums, and darks. This will be a pretty quilt! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
