Back to Blueberry Taffy

You might remember this project even though I haven't shared it for awhile.  I think the last time I pulled it out was in December of 2023.  Blueberry Taffy began in the RSC blue month in 2022 when I wondered how many crumb blocks I could get out of my shoebox sized blue scrap bin.

The answer was 20 of them!  And then I decided to make "wrapped candy" blocks out of the crumbs - a block I've seen on more than one RSC quilter's blog.  My plan was to work on it every time we had a blue month, and I realized this week that we were already into the third week of June, and I hadn't gotten it out yet!

It turned out that I only needed to make five more blocks for the 20 total I had planned on, and once you get the pieces and parts cut and trimmed, these Taffy blocks sew together really quickly.

So this week I made the final five blocks!

Here are all twenty blocks.  You can see that I used all shades of blue from very light to very dark, and I included blue-green and purple in the mix.

Time now to sew these into a quilt top!

Sweet, calm light blues - these might be my favorite blocks!

I am so far behind on the RSC quilts right now that I hope to pick up on that in July and just go from there. I like those taffy blocks

Oh Diann I love these! I remember seeing them and loving them. You've done so well in choosing just the right scraps for these. But I bet your scrap bin is still overflowing - LOL!

How sweet to find you only needed 5 more blocks to finish this quilt.

Yup, I'd totally forgotten about your Blueberry Taffy blocks. This will be a great finish and just look at all those scraps!!

That is so cute, and using all of those various shades of blue just lifts it another notch or two. Great use of scraps!!

I love your candy blocks and especially the range of blues you used! And that reminds me that I have a boxful of those blocks to sew together into a top! Let’s lobby for adding another day or two to our standard week! (Wink!)

It’s so fun to see your taffy blocks again! I was going through my notebook of blocks and ran across my handwritten ‘ instructions “! It made me wonder if you were still making them, or if you had finished it and I missed the “share”! It going to be adorable!

The ombre effect you have created in your layout is such fun. Those taffy blocks are one of my favs, because of how you have crumb pieced them. They "read" like a candy wrapper.

I love these, but I bet you still more scraps left. Those bins never seem to get emptier no matter how much we sew!

Those are such fun blocks. I remember when you started them. Are you going to keep the color gradation in the final layout? It looks pretty cool that way.

It's nice to see the Candy blocks again. It's been on my to-do list ever since I saw that one. It looks so calm all in blue. Someone will have "sweet" dreams with such a quilt. Enjoy! ;^)

I like your candy blocks. Love the idea of the crumb blocks in the middle. Yikes... I've only made 2 blocks for my RSC this month. I wonder where I put the rest of the fabrics I'd pulled for them. Most add those to my list for this week... Have a great week.
