Little Penguin Quilts Through the Year

Little Penguin Quilts Through the Year

Friday, January 1, 2021

Hello, January!

Like many of you, I'm beginning 2021 with a list of works in progress and plans for the year in my sewing room.

Although these aren't the only quilt tops I have that are ready to be quilted, these are the three on the top of the pile.    Last year I sewed a rainbow of strings, trees, and zigzags!

My plan is to work on finishing the Rainbow Zigzag quilt first because I would like to give it to a special former co-worker who is battling brain cancer.  I have the batting and backing all ready to go for that quilt, so I'm hoping to get it basted this week.

Also on my list from 2020 are these double four patches, which are now ready to sew together into a quilt top.  There are 56 six inch finished blocks, which should make a small quilt, about 42 x 48.  I'm planning to donate it for a child's comfort quilt.

This past week I pulled out the pink scraps for January's Rainbow Scrap Challenge color and just had fun making a few different blocks for other purposes: 4 patches, an Easy Breezy block, a wonky star, and some crumb blocks.

And then (famous last words, right?!), I saw Angela's tutorial for the hashtag blocks that will be the first row of a challenge quilt for this year, and I just *had to* try a few.  (More famous last words!)  But I enjoyed making them, and they went together really quickly, so I'm sure I'll make more.

There's always plenty to keep busy with around here!

Oh what lovely blocks in progress you have to continue RSC with this year!! I began the "hashtag" too--I love the idea of a punctuation quilt...being such a wordy nerdy person!! hahaha. I like your 3--nice start...

Anyway--I actually found some pink solids in my stash--I had to use the reverse side of one to come up with 5 though--but I think it'll be ok..I am pondering what other block(s) to make for the year..ones I love--perhaps a little log cabin type...
hugs, Julierose

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the start of a new year with new hopes and new quilts! Still debating whether I'll be jumping in with the "Punctuation Challenge" or not. After seeing your blocks though, I'm thinking probably. Your blocks from last year are very pretty. They should work up very nicely. Sorry to hear about your friend but I'm sure those lovely string blocks will be medicine for the soul. Happy New Year!

Great start to the New Year! I got sucked into Angela's project, too. Even tho she said hashtag was probably the most complicated, I quickly made one and cut 4 more in pink.

A new year and new projects. I'm going to be working on Scrap Dance Pachanga Mystery QA this week, and two QOVs are in the works as well.

Great goals! Don't you love how Angela snuck this sew along in? It will be fun to watch those pretty quilts get finished. Did you see there will be a 2021 Hand Piecing Quilt Along?

Your quilt pile looks so pretty! Looking forward to seeing your 4-patch worked up into a quilt. I'll check out Angela's tutorial, but I just spied Roseanne's Stay At Home Round Robin and am thinking of using my Lynx Star as a feature block. Since it only goes through February, maybe I won't have a chance to get burned out - lol!

Somehow, the choice of pink to start off RSC 2021 feels perfect. Those blocks look hopeful to me, like better days are coming soon. Let's hope! Good luck with your projects in the new year!

Lots of pretty pinks here. I'm sure your friend will love her zig zag quilt what trying time she is going through. Please tell her that your bloggy friends all send their good wishes from around the world.

You're off to a good start. I haven't even figured out what blocks to work on for RSC. But I know I'm not doing the punctuation challenge. I just finished the Project Quilting Mystery QAL which was a quickie. Now I'm going to try out some new FMQ motifs to quilt it. I did pull out some pink crumbs to use as L&E when sewing the rows together. So I guess I am started.

What a great beginning for the new year full of hope and promises. Love your blocks, especially the addition of the light blue in the pink 4 patch blocks. It's so cheerful. All the best for the New Year, Diann. Cheers! ;^)

You are so organized! I am still trying to decide on blocks for RSC21! I have so many I want to do! Bet you are not surprised by that statement! I’m in a quandary that won’t be solved til I get back home and into my sewing room!😊

It is only day four of the year and there you go showing off - 4 patches, an Easy Breezy block, a wonky star, and some crumb blocks. I have only just picked out the pink scraps - still undecided on the actual block(s). Do you know how inadequate that makes me feel??? Insert fuming head emoji here. But don't stop :-) cause I love everything you do. Hugs.
