This is a 12 x 16 placemat made from leftover charm squares. It's number one in a series of placemats I'm planning to make this year in each color of the month. I'm hoping to eventually donate these to Meals on Wheels. I'm joining in with Joy's Table Scraps Challenge every month, because there's nothing I enjoy more than making a table top beautiful with something quilted!
Linking up with Joy's January Table Scraps party.
Hashtags in pink, for the "Full Stop" RSC 2021 quilt along.
The blocks that look brown actually have a small pink flower print
on the light brown background.
And I did get Rainbow Zigzags basted and ready to quilt this week. Plus started in on the quilting - off-white thread in the low volume spaces, and (possibly) a variegated thread in the rainbow rows. It's coming along!
Zigging and zagging along the HST rows is a bit of a slog, but it's always fun to see my favorite scraps go by. How about some penguins with pink and green hats, plus flowers, cats, letters, and words? This quilt has a little bit of everything in it!
Happy ScrapHappy Saturday! Sharing at SoScrappy.
And at Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap on Sunday.

Sweet placemat, Diann.
And those little pingouins are giving your zig zag quilt a special charm.
Lovely quilt!!!
Zig zag is a wonderful RSC quilt. It's so nice to see one so close to being completely finished. The placemat looks so colorful and happy, a cheery placement to use on a dreary winters day. Happy stitching!
What a fun plan for the back to be a complete surprise compared to the back. Enjoy your quilting progress on the zig zag quilt. It is a nice chance to enjoy all your favorite scraps one more time.
Love the sweet and spicy! How fun to make placemats to use. I like quilting for the same reason - getting to see the fabric go by. :)
Neat Hashtags--I wonder what will be next?? Hugs from inside my pink stash sorting fabrics Julierose ;)))
Great idea on donating them to meals on wheels. It is a very cute table mat! The plusses are looking great too - I think I have some of that floral pink fabric.
well love to see the zigzag quilt done - are you doing straight lines?
Love the hashtag block fabrics. Cute cute!
Seeing you quilting makes me want to do the same!
Enjoy!
All sorts of scrappy goodness. I love the pink checkered placemat.
I’m excited to see all the pink placemats! Anxious too, to get home to my machine! I’ll have to sew like a madwoman to catch up! You have inspired me to try quilting my Precarious top soon!
YAY!!! I'm SEW excited that the first (known) finish for the Table Scraps Challenge has been completed, Diann. Best of luck on quilting your Zig Zag quilt!
Nice start on the placemat challenge you've set yourself. The back made me smile too. I thought they were cats but someone said penguins which would make sense given the name of your blog. LOL I will take another look!
You have such lovely and cute fabrics! Your zigzag quilt is beautiful, can't wait to see it done! Great placemat too, the backing is spicy like I love ;)
Great idea -- placemats for Meals on Wheels! Maybe my sister-in-law will get one one day. Currently she's in rehab after a fall but will return soon hopefully to her apartment and then a return to Meals on Wheels. Wouldn't that be a hoot if she got one of yours?
Those placemats are so fun, and what a great idea for a donation! Fun to see you are now zigging and zagging through the quilting on that quilt :-) Penguins are so fun!
Stitching a monthly placemat sounds like fun, and you will have a wonderful assortment by the end of the year for donation. Love the zig zag quilt, I'm sure that will be finished soon.
The placemat is lovely, and will brighten a senior’s day. The hashtags are so cute! And yay for getting the zig zag quilt on the machine!

What a great placemat!! and your zig zag quilt is Wonderful!! did you know your quilt has green hands?? I learn something new every day haha!!
Great idea to do placemats in the monthly color! I should see if our meals on wheels would like some.
That's one of my favorite parts about quilting a scrappy quilt - seeing old favorites pop into sight!
You've gotten a great start on your pink scrappy projects. Hopefully you've made even more progress on quilting the Zig Zag quilt. You do have some really fun scraps.
I love the unconventional idea of making a placemat in each color every month! It's a nice way to have a completed finish each time!
Sweet and Spicy! I love it. It's always great to start the new year with a finish. Kudos to you! ;^)
Great progress, and such fun scrappy projects.
What a great idea for your placemats! Good luck with quilting the zigzag quilt. I did both of mine with straight lines up and down the "hills", and it did get a little tedious, but finding fun novelty prints always livens things up. Your penguins are adorable!
Looking forward to seeing your finished quilt. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
You've started the New Year off running! Love the zig-zag quilt, almost to the finish line!
What size are your 1/2 sq tri's in the zig zag quilt? Every time I see one of those, I think to myself 'I NEED to make one of those, they're so pretty!!'. Yours is a beauty!
Great idea with the placemats....win win - you get to use up leftovers and someone gets a lovely gift. Zig zag is pretty.
What a great use of your placemats. What a great use of left over charm squares. I like the wild backing too. Someone is going to enjoy this placemat. Have fun keeping up with your hash tags.
