I Like Thursday #324

Wednesday's view out the front window.

I guess it's still winter here.  sigh...

We did manage to get to my final post-op exam at the eye doctor this morning.  The roads weren't great, but my wonderful husband got me there, and also to Costco to order new glasses, and then home again.   That's something I love about him - he figures out how to get things done.

How to find an iced tea in downtown Boston?
Did you know Dunkin Donuts has good iced tea?
There's one on just about every corner in Boston!

Today will be a good day to wrap up in a quilt and read.  I don't mind that!  I've gotten into an obsession with a book series.  Does that happen to you?  As soon as I finish one book, I want to read the next.  These are from the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths.

Ruth is a forensic archeologist in England, and ends up working with the police to help identify bones when there's been a murder.  The books have interesting historical and archeological info in them, along with the fictional story.  Plus I've gotten very attached to the characters, which is why I want to read the next book right away!

We were searching for a new TV series to watch in the evenings, and I found this one on BritBox.  So far we're enjoying it.

Rosemary Boxer and Laura Thyme help solve the mysteries while
also running a gardening and landscape business.

I got right to work on this week's border prompt for the Stay at Home Round Robin - square in a square blocks.  I found a very helpful tutorial with a sizing chart at Quilting JetGirl and made the 3 inch finished blocks.  They turned out just right!

I'm still holding off on sewing any of these together into actual borders.  Maybe they will all make one border?  It's been kind of fun just arranging the blocks after they're sewn each week, and mulling over the possibilities!

Hope you're having a great week, without too much snow!

I too am enjoying Elly Griffiths' novels. I like where your border is going and I'm glad you were able to get to your follow up appointment. The weather has been frightful! We have about six inches of snow here with more falling. The commute tomorrow is going to be interesting!

Your border is growing ! Looking great. We have ice from hours of freezing rain. My husband can find anything too. He’s an excellent vacation planner. Gail at the Cozy Quilter

I talked with my SIL yesterday and she said it was only 6 degrees at the time PLUS she woke up to 3" of snow. Good googly! We've only had a little over 5" of snow all season so far. Pitiful. Glad to read your eyes are doing good. That's a worry with most folks but especially for makers. Have fun figuring out your SAHRR. Looking good so far!

I wish we'd had snow this year, but for the first time in what seems to be recorded history, not once has there been snow here this winter. Weird, and way too warm!
Oh, I've seen all the Rosemary and Thyme series, loved it!!
If you have Netflix, see Age of Adeline.
Good progress on your SAHRR.

always looking for more books to read so wrote down that author and series info. I have not seen Rosemary & Thyme I wonder if it is on any of the channels I get. One day your winter will disappear but I agree up north sometimes it just seems like it doesn't want to leave - on one hand you need the snow for the moisture but you sure get tired of it after the first couple of pretty snowfalls.
Glad your eyes are all taken care of now and you can get your glasses.

We have been in the winter storm path also. It got windy yesterday so not really sure how much snow we have, over 8" for sure. They forecasted up to 18". It is supposed to stop by noon today. Nice that DH could get you to your appts and got those glasses ordered!

Well my little primroses are snowed under this morning. We didn't get very much tho - maybe an inch? Sigh.

Love the recommendations for books and tv series - thanks!
Curious to see how you finish up the SAHRR - It is going to be a great winter theme wall hanging for you.

The weather isn't great here either. Snuggling up with a quilt is the perfect thing to do!

We had a surprise snow in Portland, OR, yesterday too. Your mix of blocks in one border is stil working. Holding my breath to see if it keeps working with sixth prompt!

we watched all the rosemary and thyme shows, they are great!
Mike's a work it out kind of guy, and it's a relief to have one of those! They aim to please and take care of you, like you do them.
Today I'm sewing, and baking but I just love Elly Griffiths and forgot how to find that series, thanks for telling us! Ruth is an interesting character to follow book after book

I’m interested in BritBox. Is it a streaming service? The title Rosemary and Thyme drew me in. Now I’m singing that Simon and Garfunkel tune! Now if I just didn’t have to sleep, I could sew and watch shows and cook, and clean, and read!! There I go, moaning again! Bad on me! Gonna add Ella Griffiths to my authors list! Thanks!

Brrrr! Those books sound good. I like Rosemary and Thyme too. I love your SAHRR. Blue and white is so pretty!

I love the blue polka dot fabric in your square-in-a-square blocks! This looks great, and smart to wait to sew them together until it's all revealed :)

I'm intrigued by Rosemary & Thyme. My husband saw me looking at it (our computers sit on the same desk) and was laughing at the name.

Diann - Love your Welcome Winter project in process! We have had more snow this week, and several days of bitterly cold temperatures. It doesn't help that the wind has been blowing hard - nasty wind chills. I figure it is more time to stay in and stitch! Thanks for visiting my blog!

I wondered if you got any more snow with this latest system. It does sound like the perfect weather to stay in and cozy up to a good book. I adore the blue and white polka dot fabrics. Sew cute!!! Stay safe and warm and have a great weekend, Diann.

Dunkin started in Quincy, MA so it isn't a surprise that there are so many of them. I live on Long Island and there are 2 that are less than a mile from my home with at least 6 more nearby. I am glad you were able to get to your follow up eye appointment. We would love to see just a little bit of snow here. We haven't had but one dusting this winter. I can often get hung up on book series. I will have to look into those books. I like the blocks you made for the SAHRR. Have a great week!

I love how all the different units you’ve made for SAHRR border prompts look together and the options you have to puzzle them altogether.

Are you glasses for far vision or for reading? My optometrist said I should be able to wait until absolutely necessary, so I am enjoying a life without contacts at the moment. I do need readers though, almost every day. I am currently hooked on Rhys Bowen books. Hope you enjoyed your snow day. It is cold and dreary here. Have a great weekend!

Your SAHRR is looking great! I think it's a fun idea to just hold off on sewing them and then seeing where you go once the last one has been revealed. Such happy blues! I need to pick up that book series again; I read the first one, and then got distracted (imagine that). Hope your eyes are doing well - it certainly doesn't see to have affected your sewing too much!

I like how your border is coming along. We enjoyed Rosemary and Thyme. I hope your post-op continues to go well. Yay for a get-it-done kind of guy!

Obviously Mike wasn't looking for tea in the snow! Hope you are having a comfortable recovery.

Glad that Mike got you to your appointment and everything looked good. Kudos to him for getting you to Costco, too, Diann! Best of luck on Round 6's prompt working to create one continuous border with the blocks you've already made. Whatever happens, it's going to be SNOW adorable!!

Hi Diann! I do LOVE to read a series of books. I just stumbled on a new-to-me one that has 63 books in the series (Stuart Woods and his character, Stone Barrington). Sixty-three! I'm on book #12 and I just have to read them in order. How much snow did you end up with? We had 3/4" of ice during that storm. Yuck! I'm ready for Spring in spite of losing an hour. Thanks for the book recommendation - I'll check her series out. Finally, good job on round 5. It's a bit of an optical illusion as the ones with blue on the outside look larger to me than the ones with white. I can't wait to see how you decide to finish off these blocks with the next and final prompt. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
