Happy Thursday, friends! When I was working, we used to celebrate that it was Friday Eve - only one more day of the work week left. I don't have to work any more, but I still like Thursdays!
One reason to like Thursdays is that is when my quilt group meets! Last Thursday during our get together, we learned how to make Folded Star ornaments. It was challenging, but fun - thank goodness for friends who had it figured out ahead of time!
Here's mine!
This week I also finished up this sweet cross-stitch design from Melisa at PinkernPunkin Quilting. I think I'd like to frame it, but need some advice. Should it be behind glass? Or maybe an open frame with some batting behind it to give it texture and a little poof? Any suggestions are welcome!
Our Valentine's Day was pretty low key, but we did take my mom out for lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant. That was yummy and enjoyable! Here is my Valentine guy, out doing one of his (or you could say our) favorite things - wandering along an ocean beach with camera in hand ready to take a photo. This was taken last fall on the Oregon coast.
LeeAnna's question of the week for us is how did you know your spouse was The One? And my first thought was - we met 49 years ago, so I don't remember! 🤣 But here we are, all these years later - still laughing together and enjoying and supporting each other - so he must be the one!
Plus, he doesn't mind when I buy Girl Scout cookies, lol!
True love! 💕💕💕

The folded star ornament looks really cool. Congrats on being sweethearts for 49 years!
LOL at your comment of not knowing how your husband was the one - me too after 50 years. The folded stars are so pretty. For the cross stitch Melanie has given me some to hang where she placed them in an embroidery hoop and one very large piece she did I had framed, slightly puffy back but behind glass as I have a very dusty house. If the piece is large and a lot of effort into it then I put behind glass (but that is because of the dusty house)
I had fun making those folded star ornaments too. . .once I got the hang of it! I like your fabric choices? Do you get to the Oregon Coast much? We used to spend a lot of time at Florence when our girls were tykes. We loved beach walks!
I framed a piece of crewel stitchery with a mat and a frame. . .no glass. I like no glass; but, that is me! Your needlework is lovely!
I have a stitchery framed without glass, just know you'll need to vacuum off the dust from time to time. Our guild meets today, looking forward to seeing friends this morning.
I love your folded Star! I learned to do that years ago! I’m sure I couldn’t do one now!
Your stitchery would be really cute framed. I never put stitching behind glass unless there is a mat, for air space. And then, it’s not my favorite way. I think a bit of batting and wrapped around a sticky board then a frame would be lovely!
I've never seen the folded star ornament but it sure looks like a fun project. I love your Valentine sampler. I'd say it would be cute in an open frame or maybe even a small pillow.
It's always fun to get together with quilty friends and learn something new! The folded stars are really quite pretty. That's wonderful to have a Valentine to spend your life with - makes the journey a blessing!
What a great picture of your husband! Definitely frame your pretty stitching with a little batting and no glass. I have several like that and I wash them once in a while (every couple of years) and they look brand new.
doesn't mind GScookies? That's a big plus in my book! Love to you both
LeeAnna
The folded star is really pretty - looks like everyone was having fun making them! Lol on not remembering - but hey if he doesn't mind when you buy GS cookies he's a keeper. :D
Big yes to walking along the beach!
We had such good Mexican food when we were in California -- nothing floating in a plate of beans. Now I'm spoiled! I thought about your Oregon trip as we were enjoying the Northern California coastline.
Your folded star is perfect. I made some of these years ago as gifts and do not think I could do it again. Your cross stitch looks lovely. The benefit of a frame with glass is that it will not get dirty or dusty. Washing can be an issue as most embroidery thread is not colorfast. A friend of mine has done this with several antique ones from her family treasures. My cross stitching is not heirloom quality so I just put a layer of batting behind it and put it in an open frame or hoop or I make a quilted pillow or wall hanging. I have vacuum off dust with a hand held device and have spot cleaned and otherwise just let it start to look "vintage." Works for me. We have a box of Thin Mints and a box of Do-Si-Dos. Yum! ... :) Pat
I like that folded star! Who on earth would mind Girl Scout cookies? Especially thin mints. :-)
LOL at true love and girl scout cookies! Really loved that folded star, what fun to meet with quilt friends regularly! Have a great weekend!
What a fun group! Love those adventurefuls =). Pretty stitchery. I put a few of mine in a frame with glass and a matt around it. That is a neat ornament. Love the fabric you selected. 49 years together! You both are 'the one' for each other.
Chrisknits here, won’t let me sign in! Anywho, I have some under glass with mats, but for small, casual projects I do no glass with batting. Adorable mini stitch.
Making folded star ornaments sounds like a fun project especially surrounded by your friends. 49 years!! How wonderful, Diann and I got tickled about the Girl Scout cookies. Thank you for stitching my little Mini Sampler. I can not wait to see how you decide to frame it. Hugs.
I've not tried those folded star ornaments, but they sure are cute! I'm glad the two of you are still together and having fun!
