I Like Thursday #284

It's the last week of April - always amazing how the months fly by, even if some of the days have been slow.  We're starting to get some nicer, and less windy, weather here, finally, and lots more trees are leafing out.  I managed to successfully grow a few pretty tulips (after the daffodils disappeared and a bunch of tulips froze)!

We enjoyed our visit with our son last weekend, and while we were together he introduced us to another word game, a variation of Wordle called Quordle.  In this game you try to guess four words with nine tries.  Yes, it's challenging!  I think I've managed to get3 of the 4 words one time since I started playing it, usually I get two of them.

Find it at quordle.com.

I've continued on my William Kent Krueger mystery obsession.  Finished one to take back to the library, and just starting on the next.  Good stories, and interesting with so much Native American culture woven throughout.

We were looking for another show to watch and decided to try a few episodes of "Shakespeare and Hathaway" on BritBox.  They are private investigators in Stratford-upon-Avon.  Murder mysteries, but a little lighter than some with quirky characters.

I finished up the hand-quilting on this quilt, and need to figure out the binding for it, but meanwhile I've been wanting to try some English Paper-Piecing again.  The last time I worked on an EPP project, I glue basted the fabric to the papers, but I decided to to try thread-basting this time.  Thanks go to my friend, Karen, at Karen's Quilting, for sending me a video link about the process!

I was a bit all thumbs at first, but I'm sure I'll get better at it!

My niece who has started quilting, shared this on Facebook the other day, and I thought it was pretty cute.   And true, lol!

Hope you're having a great week!

yes it is all thumbs for thread basting EPP's at first but you will get the hang of it quickly I'm sure! Sorry some of your tulips froze! Love the photo at the end!

Your tulips are pretty, glad some survived. I used to find holes dug by the squirrels and no tulips. Jocelyn got me started on Wordle every morning, and now you've got me hooked on Quordle! I tried foundation piecing and liked it but have not tried EPP. Do you find the papers hard to remove if they are basted?

I was hoping to find some WKK books at the book fair, but didn't, as I suspected would happen. We enjoy Shakespeare & Hathaway when we just want to watch something funny and light.

Yeah for spring flowers. I thread baste most of my EPP by tacking at the corners. And it is fiddly since I don't do it often enough to get proficient. Like so many things with bquilting, there are advocates on both sides.

I like Shakespeare & Hathaway when I watched it a couple of years ago. I love working on hexies when I am sitting doing nothing. I find if I do hand work it makes me sit and still myself for a while.

Hi Diann! Tulips!! And some froze - that just seems wrong when it's nearly May. Quordle - I tried it just this week and was able to solve the four words in eight tries but it is not for me. It's too stressful - HAHA! Sometimes Wordle is, too. I think Pieceful Wendy is reading WKK, too. I put the first book on Hold in the library - it seems to be very popular. I guess I AM an old lady with a houseful of fabrics. We've already instructed Andrea that if she has to clear out the house, contact a few friends for the fabric and sewing stuff! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Pretty tulips and hardy too! Still no tulips in my neighborhood! At least not visible from the sidewalks! I tried quordle also. But it stresses me out! 🙂 I haven’t picked up any William Kent Krueger books yet, but they are on my list! We don’t have Britbox. Is it a streaming service? That program looks interesting!

I had no problem commenting on your blog on my iPad! It’s so random!

Your tulips are so pretty, Diann. How fun that you are working on an EPP. I tried the pasting method last year on a few blocks. Looking forward to seeing your progression and hearing which process you like the best. You are making me want to give it a whirl again. Happy quilting.

Love Shakespeare and Hathaway! Especially love the young man who plays the actor! That is a great shot of your tulips! I haven't seriously tried EPP before but will follow to see what you think after a week or two! Have a great day!

I play Quordle, too, and it is definitely challenging! Over time I've gotten slightly smarter about the words I choose, so that they might, just might, apply to some of the other words, too. Gets my brain going each morning! I will have to check out your book selection. I love using the library! Our spring has been super slow in arriving here. Our daffodils were bombarded with 6 inches of snow a couple of weeks ago. All the daffodils are really small this year. Tulips? We don't get those for another 3-4 weeks. Have fun with your EPP!

Shakespeare and Hathaway is fun fluff. Have you seen Murder in Provence? Tulips - so pretty.
