Little Penguin Quilts Through the Year

Little Penguin Quilts Through the Year

The End of January

I used my pink sewing time this week to pull out a UFO and move it forward.  I started making these Bright Hopes blocks in 2019, and then stored them away in a project box and barely touched them in 2020.  It was time to use them for something!

These are made using scraps of low volume prints with a white background, plus pink and aqua.   They make a sweet combination!  I had previously made 48 of these 6.5 inch blocks, and decided that if I made one more, there would be 49 for a 7 x 7 layout.

This was an easy group of blocks to use the webbing technique on for sewing the blocks and then rows together, so I took one afternoon to do that.

I spy a penguin in pink!

It didn't take long to have the quilt top completely sewn together.

This measures 42 inches square, which is the size that Little Lambs of Utah are looking for in this year's Hands2Help quilt drive, so I'll finish it up for a donation to that group.

And in other scrappy pink sewing this month, I finished up a placemat, quilted the Rainbow Zigzags, hand-pieced two scrappy trips blocks, got started on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021 Sampler with some hashtag blocks, and made some Easy Breezy and Wonky Star blocks in pink.

It's been a fun month in the sewing room.
On to February!

Your quilt will brighten someone's life.
January was a great color month, wasn't? I loved working with my pink scraps.
Well done Diann, your blocks for the month were beautiful.

Your little quilt is so sweet. I'd call it Bliss.

What a pretty quilt! I like Libby's name idea. I love the webbing technique but rarely carry it to completion. I need to give it a go again.

Bright hopes is so pretty, almost delicate. What a pretty donation quilt for a little one. You've done well on the scrappy front this month. Wonder what the scrappy color is for February?

Sweetness overload, Diann. LOVE your little Bright Hopes quilt done in pastels!! I might need to search through my stash to find some low volume scraps to make a quilt of my own.

The pastel quilt is so pretty Diann. Plus all of the other pretty in pink projects.
Just found out that our guild is making placemats for the Meals on Wheels program and also for a newly developing senior center in town. So I think I will hop on the bandwagon and make some - it would be a great way to use up some orphan blocks.

Your Bright Hopes quilt will make a perfection donation to Little Lambs. I have a bunch of pastel floral scraps from an Scrap Dance mystery (flimsy finished, not quilted) that I might use for a H2H quilt. Will probably use a different block though since partial seams in that size take more time. So many ideas flying around out there.

I really love the Bright Hopes quilt. It's very sweet and will make a very nice donation. You certainly had a busy January! Now that the month is over, we're that much closer to spring, too!

What a nice batch of projects done in January! It's such a good idea to do a monthly wrap up. Day to day, it's hard to see how much progress we are actually making.

Such a sweet combination of fabrics with the low volumes, pinks and aquas, and a wonderful idea for Little Lambs. Thanks for the H2H reminder.

It really does look like January was a fun month for you! Bright Hope indeed!
Your hashtags remind me that I wanted to join in with the punctuation fun - I'd better get cracking while there's time to easily catch up!
