Playing with Pink and a squirrel...

***see my note about Blogger at the end of this post.***

This week I pulled out my pink bits and pieces and played with the various blocks I'm making for this year's Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Two eight inch pieces make two wonky tree blocks:

A 5 inch square of pink and a 5 inch square of background make two 4.5 inch HSTs.

Two inch squares of pink and background fabric make 3.5 inch four patches.

And then a squirrel invaded my sewing room!

This fabric has been hanging out in my stash for awhile, and I hadn't found a use for it until I pulled it out for pink month and made a tree from a chunk of it.  (See top photo.)

Meanwhile, I noticed the fun blocks that Mari has been playing with on her post last week.  Mari kindly answered me when I asked in a comment on that post that these simple blocks were made of a 5 inch square and two 2.5 inch squares.

So, inspired by the sunshine fabric, I pulled out a hunk of Kona Butter, and some scraps of turquoise, dark pink, yellow, and purple, made 20 of Mari's blocks, and came up with this!

I think these blocks could make all kinds of fun layouts - this one is my first try.
I'm figuring that these 20 blocks will end up measuring about 23 x 18.5 when sewn together,
so a tabletopper sized squirrel!

***I wrote this post using the new Blogger format, and have figured out some things about it.  So maybe I can help any readers who are trying out the new format, too.  Just let me know.  The one thing that frustrated me is that the new format is supposed to work "better" on mobile devices, but I couldn't use it on my Samsung tablet (which worked fine for the old format), and had to write my post on our desktop computer.  I'm going to try to give Blogger some feedback about that, but we'll see if I hear anything back from them!***

I always enjoy what you do with your rainbow blocks! Love your block with the sunshine fabric! Glad you figured out the new blogger format, I don't like it at all but I know we will end up having to use it! Have a great day!

I love that zigzag pattern - I have used that on a couple quilts in the past and it always looks so good - I think you will be pleased with it for whatever you make with it

Sweet use of small pieces! Keep us all posted on anything you learn about NEW blogger.

Thanks for posting the sizes of your blocks. I always wonder as you can never tell with a photo how big things are. Love the squirrel - what a cute topper that will make. I need to play with some pink and then I'll see how the new blogger works... thanks for the tip.

I'm always happy when I see a post from you in my inbox, because I know it's going to be full of happy play in your quilt room. What fun to see all these pink blocks and then to see you snag that squirrel and run with it. Your sewing space is a delightful place!

Lovely pink blocks; and this squirrel is just wonderful!
I'm using the new Blogger version since last week, and it seems to be ok. I don't like the new way to manage photos however, nor the new way to associate a link. Too many more clicks to do simple steps!

Beautiful pink RSC blocks, and a gorgeous new squirrel! Glad you survived the new blogger interface. I tried it today, and couldn't figure out how to type under a photo after I inserted it. As a stop gap measure, I spaced down, typed something, and then went back and inserted the photo. This works, but it's annoying. I'm probably just doing something wrong.

I love your squirrels! Such a fun fabric for inspiration. It looks great used in the tree blocks as well.

As always, I love your blocks. I’ve had no trouble with the new Blogger on my iMac, but I noticed I had trouble this morning trying to correct a mistake (edit function) on a published post from my iPad. I never do anything from my phone because the screen is just too small for my eyes.

Such fun playtime with pink! Love that fabric you pulled out to use in your tree blocks. So happy and fun. Those new blocks you played with made a cute little table topper! I am so glad you are figuring out the new blogger. I have been putting off using it and glad to know someone else has blazed the trail. You might hear from me! :)

Lots of pretties in pink!

Hang in there on blogging! Thankfully I'm not having many problems with the new version but I have reported on a few weird things.

Love your squirrel, I was eyeing that too. But I have enough squirrels right now.

Hi Diann, I enjoyed your Thursday post very much. Your Book Club piece is lovely....cornerstones against the white stand out. This is a great post too with interesting blocks and your squirrel looks like one I could manage. Blocks that afford different layouts are always neat. I downloaded that Kathy pattern too...perfect for our times. Happy embroidering!

Lovely blocks, I'm kind of doing the same things with the triangles corners except my corners all different sizes. Great minds think alike!

I spotted that fun sunshine fabric right away in the trees. You did very well with pink this week and I love your newest project. Enjoy! ;^)

Pretty trees! I love the fabrics. That colorful smiley sun print is one of my favorites. I tried the new blogger format soon after it became an option. I could use it. I just do not like it. I went back to legacy format recently. Trying something new is a good thing. Keeping what works best for you is a better thing ... :) Pat

Love your pretty pinksies!
Your squirrel really gets around - seems like it's been coming at me from all directions this week!

Lots of pink goodness! Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

I haven't tried the new blogger yet. I am hoping some bugs get worked out before I give it a go.

Your pink fabric is very cute. Your choices of where to use it works for me. I find I buy a lot of multicolor prints and then I don't use them that much. I've been trying to up my original purchases to at least a full yard of fabric. I used to get 1/2 yards which made it nearly impossible to make even a decent lap quilt! Happy Quilting this week.

Sweet! Sweet! Sweet! Your RSC projects look great. Love how your Squirrel Table Topper colors seem to be inspired by your long-lost fabric! So far I've not had any trouble with the new Blogger but I use a laptop. The only trouble I had was I didn't post last Saturday because I hadn't been in my "pink" yet for the month. There WILL be an RSC post this week! Lol!
