Squirrel!

Squirrels are cute, entertaining, creative, and fast!  It's no wonder they're all over my sewing room (and my house for that matter!), as well as in the yard.

I sometimes think most of my quilting projects start out as squirrels.  I see something on a blog, and I think, "I want to try that!" and off I go.  That's how this project got started - this tutorial on The Joyful Quilter blog for Magic Star blocks and a fabric pull.

That lead to these blocks -

and this week, a finished tablerunner!

A leftover chunk of this colorful cat fabric made the perfect backing.

These guys make me smile!

I enjoyed chasing this squirrel!

And, while not necessarily a squirrelly project, I also just "had to" trace a new embroidery design to work on this week.  I chose Gail Pan's "Bee Brave," which she is offering free on her website right now.   gailpandesigns.com

I'm making this for my sister, whose daughter is a nurse working with Covid patients right now - and it's hard for her not to worry.    When the embroidery is done, I'll finish into a small mug rug or mat to give my sister.

Love your "squirrels"! Unfortunately (or fortunately for my hubby & mother) my "squirrels" usually lead me to the kitchen. Just yesterday I baked a Strawberry Banana Walnut bread by Chocolate Tess. Looking forward to breakfast! Lol! Your bright kitty fabric made me smile too!

A very pretty and even better, finished squirrel! Enjoy your hand stitching this week.

That made a nice sized runner! I love the colors and the pattern. I'm trying hard to resist making one. ;)
Kudos to your niece for her unselfish service! That is a cute pattern.
Your real squirrel looks like he's expecting a treat. We have some that appear on our deck every day about the same time looking for peanuts and entertaining the kitties.

Wishing your Niece well and hoping she stays healthy. She will love that you are thinking of her with a little gift. Your runner turned out so fun and bright, just what we need right now.

OMG, is that squirrel just saying hi, or trying to break into the house? I love the table runner, and I was inspired by The Joyful Quilter's post too, although I got stuck trying to decide on colors. What a nice idea to make something for your sister while she worries about her daughter. The embroidery is beautiful.

What a great picture of that squirrel! They are out in force here and I know they are perplexed as to why there are no flowers in the pots to eat and destroy! Just when I think I'm able to start a project for the fun of it, something comes up and I have to change course! When I do get a chance to play...it makes it all worth it!

That runner looks so happy settled there on your table, and I had to chuckle at your squirrel photo! I've been chasing squirrels this week too, and thoroughly enjoying myself. What a thoughtful gift for your sister, too. I'm sure it will be a good comfort for her. Thank her daughter for the work she is doing for me; I have a great deal of respect for our medical personnel and the exhausting and difficult work they are doing.

That squirrel looking through the window is hilarious! I really like the table runner pattern (Im trying not to get dragged into anything new, but its difficult!) I did however print off the patterns from the Love and Hugs facebook page and I really want to start the one you are doing!

Love your table runner. It's wonderful and bright, just what I need right about now. I too fell in love with Joy's Magic Star block. I haven't tried it yet though. It's on my to-do list. Kudos to you for getting that squirrel. ;^)

Funny photo of the squirrel--live one, that is! Yes, often squirrels show up here in my sewing room too. Those "Must Makes" bite hard! Love your tablerunner and new stitchery.

Thank you for reminding me about that tutorial! I really need to try it out....after I get my quilt top together. I also downloaded the embroidery pattern. Where will the squirrel take you next?

Fantastic to be visited by such a cute squirrel.
So lovely and happy colors on the runner.
Love your embroidery! My daughter has also embroidered it and we are both in the group on Facebook; "Love and Hugs from Australia Stitch Along". 16 free patterns are shared there now. I haven't started anything new yet. Maybe you are also in the group?

Great table runner Diann. Squirrels that result in a finished quilt I don't mind at all. Unfortunately mine always seem to never get done. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!

OMG! That picture is too cute! And the table runner is fabulous. I have that one marked and need to research it further.

I need to remember to download the "bee brave" stitchery tomorrow. Have to use the computer attached to the printer for that. Is the squirrel in the window trying to figure out how to get to what looks like some suet for the birds? I watched a squirrel who appeared to be sun-bathing on the garage roof yesterday, but I think he was really lying there stunned from falling out of the black walnut tree. I thought I was going to have to figure out how to get a dead squirrel off the roof, but when I checked later, he was gone.

Great job, Diann! I've marked Joy's tutorial as one I'd like to do, too. I'm trying to finish my 2020 Resolution list first! Quilt squirrels are so tempting. Love the embroidery--sentiment and all. Your niece is a hero.

That star little runner is adorable! I believe I do not have a small runner...must needs remedy that! Thoughtful heartfelt gift for your sister. Thank you for being such an avid squirrel chaser! I bestow my crown upon you for April ;-) and thanks for linking up with DrEAMi!
