I Like Thursday #108

Hello, friends!  How's your week been?  These weeks fly by fast, don't they?

This week, I liked hosting my book club discussion group.  It means the house gets cleaned, there's a reason to buy some yummy snacks, and we've read a good book to talk about.  I like these seasonal napkins I found at Bed, Bath, and Beyond to use for the treats!

Our book for this month was -

which we all really liked!

It is kind of a quirky story, set in a neighborhood in England, a bit of a mystery, lots of neighborhood secrets, and two 10 year old girls who set out to solve the mystery.

Tuesday it was Read Aloud Day in my town.  A local organization helps fill any classroom whose teacher wants to participate with a guest reader, and it's something I've done every year since I retired from teaching.  I love reading aloud to kids  - I used to read aloud to my 5th graders every day, and I've missed that since retiring.

One of the books I read was this one, by a favorite children's author, Cynthia Rylant.

I love her word choice, and often used her books to inspire kids in their own writing.

I ran across a Quilt Along this week that I decided to join.  It is the Moss and Lotus Tomte Sew Along over on Instagram.  This is actually the second year it has taken place, and I didn't join last year, but this year I decided to go for it!  You can find out more about it on Instagram @mossandlotus, or on the blog HERE.

Tomte are little gnomes or elves, from Sweden.  The patterns are paper-pieced, and turn out so cute!

I was looking around for a new series to watch on Netflix while I'm sewing, and discovered that the series, "Glee," is available!

I loved this show and watched it all the way through when it was on originally, so I'll enjoy the chance to see it again.  The music, all the quirky characters and teenage angst, and the teaching life as it's portrayed were all fun for me!

Have a great day!  I'm off to visit with the rest of the I Like Thursday crew, over at Not Afraid of Color!

Yes these weeks fly by quickly. It amazes me how fast they go, especially since we thought life would slow down when we retired. ;)
How fun your book club sounds! I love the shape of those little Santas.

I cannot believe we're a week away from Thanksgiving here! So much to do before Christmas. Funny how it sneaks up on us. "Read Aloud Day" is a great idea! That pieced Santa is sweet. mary

Hi Diann! Sometimes I am sorry that I got rid of Netflix for Prime, and Glee would be one more reason. That sounds like the perfect show to sew through - no deep plots, characters that are likable, and music! Love the tomte, too! I so want to join in on the QAL but just cannot. Those napkins are just perfect and oh so pretty, and that book! I remember that one. So many good upcoming to share with Dominic! We're going to make him a reader (his parents 'don't have time' for themselves but read to him)! Hi Connie! Aww, thank you. Each week I tell myself, limit the pictures of Dominic. This isn't a blog about him (although Thursdays have turned into that for me!). But then I look through my phone and I'm like, this one is TOOOOO cute to not include. And then I end up with seven and a video slideshow. But seriously, can you just imagine me sitting there on the floor with him and he is reading his book to me?!!!! Pointing to a picture, telling me about it, letting me ask him questions about it, and then going to the next page. OMG!!!!! It was so sweet I can hardly stand it. Happy Thursday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne

I am so glad I have Netflix and Prime - so much lower price than some services. I never watched Glee but one of my daughters did and loved it. Love your paper piece project I looked at the link but don't think I will join I never keep up with as many things going as I normally do this coming year I need to concentrate on projects already started and those on my bulletin board that I thought I might start this year and didn't

I've seen those gnomes before and fell in love. No time this year, but maybe next? I'll follow your paper piecing adventures and see what little ones you create. Fun, fun!

Cute gnome and love your fabric you used. How fun to read aloud. How is it that it gets cooler, and we are even busier it seems?

What a beautiful storybook! Just that one page you showed makes me want to seek this out at the library-still trees with arms reaching out... yum!

I believe Cynthia Rylant also wrote "And the Relatives Came" (not sure if I have the title correct), which was given to us after I had organized a family reunion. We loved it, and still do. Such fun words and pictures! So glad you're joining in with the tomte SAL! So fun!

Ooh - like those little elves. Some of my favorite memories are reading aloud to my sister, or spending one summer reading aloud to my young cousins several evenings a week. It was Edward Gorey books - they loved it, but I could only read for so long before I'd get hoarse. :-)

Love your new quilt along project! Looks like lots of fun. The SIT loved to be read to, her favorites were Dr. Suess read at break neck speed to see how fast mom could get out all those rhymes. I miss those days.

I'm intrigued by both those books. A book club sounds like so much fun. Only watched Glee sporadically the first time it aired but I always enjoyed it.
