I Like Thursday #95 - the middle of August!

It's hard to believe it's the middle of August already!  My teacher friends who are still working have gone back to school this week, and the kids in our town go back next week.  This will be my 4th year NOT going back to the classroom, and I have to admit that I like that!

Instead I'm getting ready for my mom's yearly visit where we will celebrate her 87th birthday.  I've been cleaning, planning some meals, and figuring out some fun activities.

We will definitely be baking a peach pie.  I LOVE peach pie, so that is a yummy annual tradition, especially because this is the time of year that Colorado peaches are in season.

Delicious!

I was pulling some things out of my closet the other day to see what I could get rid of, and found this tote bag.  I have no memory of where this came from, and it looks like it's never been used.  I like the positive words on it, so I think I'll keep it to use!

I liked what my little great-nephew, William, said when he saw these -

"Why do you have pool noodles, if you don't have a pool?"

Good question!  I tried as best I could to explain to him that I was going to use them to baste a quilt.  Whether he understood me or not, whatever I said seemed to satisfy him, and then he was on to the next thing. :) God bless 4 year olds!

So, finally this week, I did use my pool noodles to baste a quilt, with pretty good success.  More on that in a later post!

Also in my sewing room, I like this pile of goodies that arrived recently.

Connecting Threads had their wide backings on sale, so I decided to buy a few yards of one.  Of course, a few other items had to come along just for fun!

These happy marigolds in my little garden are making me smile right now!  They're one of the few flowers I can grow successfully year after year.

And finally, because these two topics seem to come up whenever I am talking with friends these days - getting enough exercise and not getting enough sleep - I loved this Maxine cartoon!

Hope you're getting some of both - exercise and sleep - as the week goes on.  :)

Happy Thursday, and thanks for visiting today!  I'm joining in with the rest of the I Like Thursday bloggers at Not Afraid of Color for our weekly celebration of all the good stuff.

Nice post, Diann. Be sure to snap a pic of that peach pie so we can enjoy it vicariously. (wink) Your bag looks like it has a Weight Watchers logo on it. It most certainly wasn’t from YOU attending, dearonewhodoesnothaveaweightissue. xo

I know you will enjoy your mom's visit. Laughing about Maxine-I agree with her 100%, also covers on-covers off should count too!! I am drooling over your bundle of blue from CT.

My former Day Job required me to travel the same places during certain times of the year. Now that I'm retired, and those certain times of the year roll around, I find I do not miss my former schedule at all! Maybe that's similar to your feelings about school starting. Enjoy your visit with your mom!

tossing and turning should count - I feel like I was kept awake all night last night! have a fun visit with your mom - I hope you will have a nice long visit, is she flying in or someone bringing her? I bet it is nice to be retired from teaching - most teachers love teacher but love retirement!

I wish there was a thumbs up emoji (or icon or whatever they are called) for blogs. I really enjoy reading your I Like blog but usually don't have anything to comment -a thumbs up would let you know that someone has read and enjoyed your post. :)

so how do you make the peach pie? I just love peaches and should find some of those everyone raves about here. I am allergic to corn so no cornstarch is a must. Your flowers and fabrics are sure pretty. I just watched a video on Hallmark for winding pool noodles to look like lollipops for Christmas lawn ornaments.

Peaches! I bought enough for a small pie or cobbler. I've seen a number of neat things to do with pool noodles. I need to buy me one of them at some point.... Love the color of that extra wide backing.

Hi Diann! Oh, how I remember the Colorado peaches!! My mom would always get a crate of them, and we would make pies and eat them each morning on cereal. YUM. I should look to see if we have them in the grocery store - there's nothing better! Enjoy the time with your mom and give her an extra {{hug}} for me please. Pool noodles for basting a quilt?? I'm with the 4-year-old . . . why the pool noodles?? I'll have to wait for your post. Oh and marigolds - Sue's grandma always had them around her house. I can remember being in college and sitting on her driveway planting hundred of them. Maybe it was only one hundred but it seemed like more. Enjoy your fourth year of not starting the new school year!! Happy Thursday! ~smile~ Roseanne

Thanks for the reminder to go buy more homegrown peaches. I love peach pie, but it's been so hot here that the thought of turning on the oven is too much. Supposed to be a cool down next week, so maybe pie can be baked then. I use pool noodles to roll up table runners and wall hangings so they don't get folds, and to roll up fusibles and other stabilizers so they don't get folds. Enjoy your Mom's visit.

Oooh peach pie! Sounds yummy. Though I'm back on to my improved eating habits and pie doesn't fit. Lots of fun stuff going on at your place. Love your flowers, very pretty. Hard to believe another school year has started. Where does the time go?
