Blue and White Tabletopper

Back when I was teaching, daily sewing time was pretty hard to come by, so Christmas Break was a time when I would try to make something fun and feel like I accomplished something!

This 16 inch square table topper was made over Christmas break of 2010, from a pattern out of an American Patchwork and Quilting issue dated February 2011.

I still have that issue of the magazine, and rereading it reminded me that the mini is based on an antique crib quilt.

This little project was a first for me - first mini quilt I made, first made completely from scraps leftover from other quilts, and one of the first projects I tried machine quilting on.

The blue scraps came from an early quilt made for my MIL and from a quilt made for my husband, and white background pieces leftover from my Albuquerque Quilt.

This little mini quilt has always been a favorite of mine!
Thanks go to Sandra at mmmquilts for providing an opportunity to link up once a month and share our older projects!

This is a gorgeous little piece, Diann. You are such a good quilter and going way back it seems.
Lovely likes post. Those cascading hearts will be fabulous I'm sure. Too bad hubby's experiment didn't quite pan out...idea seems sound.

Wow- that's a lot of firsts in one piece and it's so pretty. I need to make a blue quilt. Thanks for the inspiration. mary

This is so pretty—and the perfect size for school break sewing (I remember those days well) as well as machine quilt practice. The design appeals to me as a baby quilt, too, either enlarged or multiple blocks like the antique one.

So this month seems to be the month of firsts! You, me, Cindy so far! I will have to dig up that magazine as I have them all back to oh, '97 or maybe '96... I so remember those teaching days with no sewing except on breaks...so happy NOT to be there anymore ha! Isn't it fun to get a 'free' quilt from scraps of another market?!

I can see why it's still a favorite. This is a pretty mini. Love that confetti fabric for the background.
