Autumn Jubilee Finish: Cheddar and Blue

Every October, Carole, at From My Carolina Home, hosts Autumn Jubilee.  Her posts are packed full of quilting and stitching projects, decorating ideas, and yummy recipes.  I always try to join in along the way, and this week I finished up a wall-hanging inspired by her quilt-along for this year.  See Carole's gorgeous finished quilt HERE

This year, I made one, two (or a few!) of the blocks from the QAL, and put them together into a wall-hanging that measures 25 x 52.  I've been wanting to play with the color Cheddar for a long time, so I bought a fat quarter of Kona Cheddar, pulled some coordinating scraps from my stash, and added in several tone on tone dark blues.

The border and backing is "Thankful" by Deb Strain for Moda, and I loved the selvage so much, I pieced it into the back!

Binding is leftover strips of the different blues
sewn together in scrappy fashion!

One block I added, that isn't in Carole's pattern, is a stack of flying geese.  My tree needed some help to connect it to the rest of the quilt!

Autumn is moving into winter in our neck of the woods.  The trees have pretty much lost their leaves, and we've had some snow.

My Autumn Jubilee wall-hanging has landed on this wall in my sewing room, where it will stay for awhile so that I can enjoy its pretty color!

Thanks, Carole, for another wonderful design!

Early morning here, Diann, as I catch up on your posts. Beautiful photo of Mike. Now would you have been scared close to those big horn sheep. They look huge. I like those neutral string blocks you are stitching. They will come in handy sometime. Cheddar is beautiful and my favourite photo is of your hanging outside...the setting is perfect for it. I've been trying to build a little stash of cheddar for something someday. Smile

Cheddar and Blue, what a fun little quilt. Great color combo. Don't you just love how cute selvages are these days!? I like that little pumpkin piece next to Cheddar and Blue too!

This is a great advertisement for Kona Cheddar, and the dark blue complements it perfectly. Your sense of design is spot on - the flying geese really tie in the tree. It's beautiful Diann!

Love the final product! After you wrote about the cheddar/navy combo, I got inspired to pull some of those fabrics and have a table runner pattern selected. My family members are going to be covered in runners this Christmas!

The wall hanging is beautiful! I broke down a year or so ago and bought a charm pack of Kona cheddar. I've used it here and there, but I need to pull it out and let it shine in a quilt like yours is doing!

Great use of Carole's design, Diann! Your wall hanging turned out beautifully. I absolutely LOVE the fact that you adapted it to fit your space!

That's a great adaptation of Carole's Autumn Jubilee row quilt. I've been trying to find ways to participate in some of the many QALs without making big quilts, both because I don't need big quilts and I'm more likely to finish a smaller piece. We're back to normal western NY November weather, cold and gloomy, but the warm up was nice while it lasted.

Aren't you glad you made it in time to still enjoy Autumn inside, even if it doesn't look like it outside. I have pumpkins displayed around until after Turkey day.

Wow Diann! This is so pretty - I always love autumnal tones - so warm and cozy. Using the blue and cheddar together is so pretty. Also - leaving the selvage showing on the back is clever. Well done!!
