I Like Thursday #154 - Memories Made

Happy Thursday!  I'm joining in with the I Like Thursday bloggers at Not Afraid of Color - be sure to click on over and visit all the other fun posts, too!

We're back home again, but still thinking about our fall trip.  There are so many things to like about the places we visited in Oregon!  In Newport, we found a fishing pier to walk on, and it turns out everyone there was crabbing.  It was fascinating to talk to them and learn how they do what they do.

All those ropes lead down to the special nets that are being used to catch the crabs.

A few times we found ourselves in a forested area, and I love how the trees are covered with thick moss.

We enjoyed spending a couple of afternoons watching the gray whales who come to feed in the kelp beds at Depoe Bay.

When you see a spout come out of the water, you know to watch for the curve of the whale's back.  I loved being able to watch the whales from the shore!

For the first time, I saw Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach.  It's so amazing to come around a corner from the street to the beach and it's right there!

Huge!

We love having  picnic lunches when we're traveling.

Especially when this is the view!

We enjoyed this museum in Astoria where we learned about the specially trained Columbia River Bar pilots who are needed to help a big ship navigate the area where the river meets the Pacific Ocean.

And I always love visiting quilt shops in the towns we visit, and bringing home some "souvenirs!"

I've already cut into those orange pieces to get started hand-piecing some pumpkins, but more about that in another post!

Thanks for visiting  - hope you're having a great week!

Oh how fun! So did you visit the quilt shop in Canon Beach? It is awesome. Depoe Bay did you see the spouting horn? In Newport did you go to the Oregon Coast Aquarium? Astoria is awesome too. Looks like you had an awesome time and picnicking at the beach is always awesome.

What a fun trip. We were in Oregon for a family reunion about 14 years ago. We spent time in Newport and Astoria, it's a gorgeous place.

Hi Diann! That Maritime Museum sounds fascinating! I would love to learn things like that. I'm always amazed at watching the float planes land and take off. Your photos are just fabulous, and I would love to walk out that pier. Beautiful and I can see why you are still thinking about the fun you had. When's your next visit?! ~smile~ Roseanne

Sounds like you had a grand time! So glad you made it to Astoria. We spent a day there while on a coastal cruise and so enjoyed everything around the town. Some day we want to take the riverboat cruise up the Columbia River.

What a fun post to read, Diann. We have fond memories of our visit to Astoria years ago as a family. One very funny story in particular, but that's for another time. How fun that you could see whales from shore. I've never seen Haystack Rock, but it's on my list!

The Oregon and Washington coasts are gorgeous and great fun to visit! Thanks for sharing your photos! I think I need to visit that museum sometime! I've been to the coasts many times, but never there.

Fun to learn our paths crossed last week! The world is smaller than we think, lol! Glad you had a great time - I, too, picked up some fabric mementos. But then I happened to attend the Portland Quilt Expo, and got into a wee bit of trouble there.....

It sounds like such a great trip! I love specialized museums when visiting- one of my favorites will always be the Baltimore public works (all about the history of city infrastructure there) and it sounds like the maritime museum was pretty cool! Such beautiful views- I hope the peaceful memories keep you going through the fall!
