I Like Thursday #148 - This and That

Happy Thursday, friends!  The kids have gone back to school in my city, and my retired teacher friends and I are celebrating NOT being there!

My mom and I made our peach pie, and it is delicious!  I love Colorado peaches - so tasty and sweet.  I liked this picture of my bowl full of sliced peaches before baking.

And here's an "after" picture - yummy!

My sister and I always take Mom to a movie when she is visiting,  and this time we chose this one.

We really liked it!  I had read the book years ago, but didn't remember the story.
I should warn you, this movie requires a pack of tissues - but Enzo, the dog, is just wonderful!

The other day, when we took Mom on a picnic, we visited a park that is up the Big Thompson Canyon a ways (towards Estes Park). It was terribly damaged in the 2013 flood, and just recently reopened.  They have let it go back to a more natural setting, rather than a grassy lawn like more typical city parks, but I liked it.

We enjoyed our lunch and then wandered around the paths a bit.
This is a view of the river running through the park.

I was able to get a little time at my sewing machine the other day, so I finished up this re-do of last week's Tiny Tuesday block for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I wasn't happy with my first attempt, and like this one much better!

Mike and I play a game of cribbage every night, and the other day he got what is considered a "perfect" hand.  It's worth 29 points!  (Yes, he won the game!)

And, finally, I had to show you one more picture of my marigold garden, because it has changed and gotten even prettier.  The larkspur is blooming now, and makes a lovely contrast with all the yellow-y orange of the marigolds.

That would make a pretty quilt!

Hope you're having a great week!  Join us over at Not Afraid of Color for lots more positive posts.

Love your peach pie, a perfect hand in cribbage--WOW! And I LOVE the colors in your garden. I'm not big on orange but love it with purple or that deep blue! Your rainbow quilt is going to be lovely! I read the Racing in the Rain book years ago and glad you liked the movie. Have a great day!

Hi Diann! OMG - the marigold garden is just GORGEOUS. The larkspur intermixed with the marigolds looks so very pretty. It makes me want to paint it and I have no talent for that. Maybe LeeAnna will capture it on paper, although your photo does it great justice. Cribbage! I used to play that with an old boyfriend who was a bartender. We played every day, but that was long ago. Sweet on the perfect hand! Those peaches still make my mouth water. ~smile~ Roseanne

That pie! I'd have that polished off in two days. ;)
Love all your photos, especially the mountain stream and the marigolds with larkspur. I haven't been able to grow larkspur since we moved away from Oklahoma, and I miss it. Is your Mom staying a few more days?

I thought the movie Art of Racing in the Rain was better than the book! Your larkspur looks lovely with the marigolds!

What a lovely garden bed you've created--it looks like a painting! I have a book about Monet's gardens and it reminds me of that! I love your Tiny Tues. block too; that little bit of yellow with the blue and white is just perfect...
Thanks for sharing hugs, Julierose

I love that garden!! so pretty - the peach pie looks good to - is that an egg wash on the top to make it so shiny? The park looks good - have not seen the movie - I have not played cribbage is it easy to learn?

Oh so many things to like in this post! Peach pie - yum - yours looks delicious! Time spent with mom is priceless. That's a great cribbage hand (I always lose), and those marigolds and larkspur are so pretty!

I saw an interview with Milo's namesake, and there were several goldens playing enzo... I couldn't watch a sad dog movie right now despite liking pups. Your marigolds and larkspur are brilliant! My M's died from heat, wah!
Cribbage! Love playing cribbage but haven't for a long time now!
I have to see if there is a peach pie recipe without cornstarch...

I had just heard about The Art of Racing in the Rain (book and movie) from Cousin Kim this past weekend. Like you, she said it was really good and a tear-jerker. Must add it to my list! The park looks lovely, but your marigold garden is phenomenally beautiful!!

Great likes. Peaches, yum. The park looks awesome. I learned to play cribbage from my dad when I was a little girl. Still play it.

Thanks for the movie recommendation. I remember a friend suggesting the book a long time ago. I put it off for ages because of it being narrated by a dog. When I finally read it I loved it. Yup. Gonna take tissues with me!
