For this block, I wanted to fussy cut the square for the center, and then make the rest of the block from the two solid blues. And I like how it turned out!
Meet Bess!
I've also enjoyed getting to know Bess and the other characters from the Friendship Album, 1933 podcast this week as I've been sewing. Thank you, Frances O'Roark Dowell, for sharing your stories with us!
Here are my eight blocks on the design wall. Just one more before we can start putting them together!

your theme blocks are surely coming along - how many do you need?
sorry just saw you say you need one more!
You are doing a wonderful job of hand piecing Diann! Did you take this along to work on at your mom's?
You are doing a beautiful job. Do you know how it will go together?
You do immaculate piecing, Diann. I'm envious!
I just pulled out my fabrics I am going to use to machine piece these blocks. But I think I am going to do 8 blocks and make a 2x4 layout to form a table runner. I am also being crazy and thinking to do a scalloped border, since it's been ages since I tried one. I love the fabric arrangement on your Bess!
I love all the creatures and colors in your blocks.! Only one more - yay!
I love seeing these hand-pieced blocks! I love hand piecing but haven’t done it in years.
Your blocks look great. Love the fussy cut parts adds a lot of interest
