The last time I showed a photo of my hexie handstitching project was before our trip to California, and I was getting it ready to travel along with me.
Today it looks like this -
Just three more hexies to sew on to complete the blue row on the last long side! I know I'll be working on this today.
Next I have to bring the blue around the ends - here you can see what will happen there.
I'm still planning a final row of a neutral color going all the way around, and then I will have to figure out how to finish this tabletopper! Sharing at Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.
I also finished sewing my Happy Birds quilt top together this week! I started making these blocks back in the spring, and just made a few every now then when I was in the mood.
The 5 inch centers are cut from my (more extensive than I realized!) collection of bird fabrics, and they are bordered with 2.5 inch strips of darks and lights, all from my stash.
Some favorite blocks -
A cardinal
and swallows!
Right now the quilt top measures 51.5 x 68.5, and I have to decide if I want to add a border. It's going to be a couch quilt for my husband, and I'm sure he would like having it wider and longer!
Once I decide on the border (or not!) this one will be the next to be quilted. Sharing at Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!

Love your work! You are really going to town with the English paper piecing. LOVE your happy birds!
Progress on the hexies! It's slow work, but so rewarding!!
You have moved a number of projects to the finished or almost finished pile lately. Good for you! Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!
What a fun bird quilt!
Enjoy your hexies today!
That second bird print looks like a Charley Harper design (love those). What a fun quilt!
What a great way to showcase all those great bird fabrics!
Oh I agree about borders yes or no, I am not a big fan but they can be lovely and sure do help to get the quilt to a more useable size! Love all the little birds peaking thru the windows!
Congratulations on getting your hexie project almost done. It's going to look great. Your bird quilt is wonderful. I really like that style quilt. It will be wonderful whether you border it or not. Good luck with these finishes.
I love those bird blocks. LOL - did you and Cathy (Sane and Crazy) plan these creature-themed flimsies together?? 😂
Great job on the hexies. Oh love the bird quilt.
Your hexie runner is prettier and prettier. Yay on the birds quilt and lucky hubby! It is sooooo cute.
You've made lot of progress on the hexies and it's looking great. Love the Birdie quilt too. Happy stitching this week.
There is joy and cuteness in every block. It is so much fun to work on such projects. Kudos to your progress on the hexies.
