My latest favorite - in honor of the beautiful Great Horned Owl that we've spotted in our yard several times this summer!
These are inspired by the Happy Blocks of all different types that Cathy of Sane, Crazy, and Crumby Quilts makes. I cut my centers at 5 inches and the outside borders at 2.5 inches. I made half with light borders and half with dark, for a layout something like this -
My center squares are all birds. Of course, there are many little penguins!
But I also found several other bird fabrics in my stash that I seem to have collected in recent years!
My plan is to start sewing the blocks together this week! Sharing at Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!
In other slow and steady stitching, I've also been working on my hexie project in the evening this week. I decided to add a light blue solid to the mix.
And I'm thinking of putting these the diamonds together something like this -
Looks like I will need lots more of that blue! :) Sharing at Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.
Kathy has a photo challenge on her blog today, to show a picture of where you stitch outside when the weather is nice. I have to admit that my habit is not to sew outside, but to sit by the window in my comfy blue chair and watch the birds at our feeders while I sew. So my view might be something like this!
And I enjoy it very much!
Happy Sunday Stitching, friends!

I love your birds blocks! Cute penguins of course, and nice howls ;)
Your Birdee Blocks look really nice in that alternate light/dark setting. That one should go together pretty quickly. Enjoy your slow stitching today.
I love hexies - I never thought I would like them as much as I do but they really are neat you can do so many designs with them.
Your blocks look great all together! Fun to have the bird feeder right at your view.
Super contrast in your bird blocks! Alternating the darks and lights like that really makes the overall quilt dynamic. Love your bird feeder view, too :)
Love the blue you added to the hexie project! Enjoy your hand stitching and watching the birds!
I love that you pulled only bird fabrics for your happy blocks. It is going to be so cute! Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
Your bird blocks are turning into a fabulous quilt. I love bird watching too. ;^)
Lovely 'happy bird' blocks! Great idea to alternate the lights & darks. And it's nice to have some hand stitching handy for the evenings.
Hexies are probably my favorite of all things. But I adore your bird-centered blocks! That's really fun. Pretty gold and purple finches at your feeder! :)
Love your bird feeder view! Nice photo of it too. :) You have been very productive!!
We have humming birds in our yard to distract me from my stitching! Cute bird blocks...they will make a nice quilt!
I think it is amazing you have so many bird prints! And I love the pic of the real birds. Purple or House finch? And how do you know, they look alike to me in the book!
Oh what a sweet view from your window. I can't believe how many bird prints you have. Great collection and that quilt is going to be perfect.
What fun that you have so many bird print fabrics! Your window view seems just right for sewing!
You certainly do have a lot of cute bird fabrics! Your hexies are looking good.
I like where you are going with your hexies. I am addicted to EPPing. It is versatile and portable.
Love all your bird blocks! What beautiful birds you have visiting your feeders! Are they unusual or quite common to you? We keep hearing how birds are struggling with the environment ..... so it’s lovely to see other bloggers feeding them too!
Passerby’s are often taking photos of the Parakeets on our feeders, we don’t like to see them, they are pests and stop our native birds visiting.

I meant the birds, of course, not the passerby’s.... tee hee! 😊
Love your hexies too, I have some waiting ..... one day!
