I Like Thursday #418

Happy Thursday, friends!  This week between Christmas and New Year's has been pretty quiet at our house, which is perfectly fine with me.  There's been lots of time to read, sew, and relax.  We celebrated the New Year with some of our favorite champagne - at 5:00!!!

We splurged on a couple champagne flutes
(at the dollar store!) for our new holiday tradition.

We enjoyed the "Call the Midwife" holiday special.  It originally aired on our local PBS station on Christmas Day, but I forgot about it.  It turned out that we could watch it on the PBS app anytime we wanted to.  You have to like that!

This was my last book finish for 2024, and it was a good one.  The main character is the detective Renee Ballard, who runs the Cold Case squad.  Harry Bosch - the longtime main character of many of Michael Connelly's books has a smaller role, but an interesting one.

I've been keeping track of the books I read every year since 2017, and this year's total is 53.  That's not as many as some years, but still averaging over one book a week.  My highest year total was 74 books in 2020 - I wonder why?!  😜

January 1st is always my day for taking down the Christmas tree and getting all the Christmas decorations put away.  January's decor for the little entryway chest is snowmen, and here's how it looks so far.  The heart mini quilt that will hang here with the snowmen is almost done - hope to share that on Sunday.

Have a great day!

Happy new year! I recorded Call the Midwife but have not watched it yet. I love that show! I did some cross stitching during the holidays but no machine sewing. I did some repairs on my daughter’s coat but that was by hand. Why do they use such a small seam allowance and not finish the seams properly????? Mending does not count as real sewing…. Sounds like the perfect New Year to me - we celebrated early too. I love seeing your entryway decor! I don't think I have read a Michael Connelly book, but we loved the Bosch series, so I would probably like his books too. I'm currently reading Karin Slaughter's Will Trent books in order and loving them.

I need seasonal decorations for my entry table -- not that we use the front door very much ...

Oh, I want to see the Christmas special of Call the Midwife. I only just saw the one from 2023. I hate being out of sync! Happy New Year!

Sounds like the perfect New Year celebration to me! Only the quilts remain from the Christmas decorations. After our house guests return to London, I'll change them for some to hang for January. I always appreciate book recommendations!

How did you like the champagne? I remember you said you loved it at the winery and were hoping it was just as good from the store. We really enjoyed our Prosecco Rose. Glad Mr. Hoover picked up several bottles so now we have a couple extras for later. Lol! Your little hall nook looks so inviting. Happy New Year!

I don't know how many books I read in 2024 but I read every single day according to my kindle ap on the phone. I thought it kept track of how many books read but I don't see that listed anywhere. I have read that book - I read all of Michael Connelly's

Lots to like here. The book sounds interesting. I still have to read for our book club meeting on Jan. 9th. It isn't terribly long and I'm procrastinating because I'm not sure I'll enjoy the topic...we'll see.

I was way under on my reading this year. I'm impressed with your total! Our tradition was Jan 6th (Epiphany) to take down the tree. But other winter stuff will stay up until Feb! (especially the lights)

I put the Christmas decor away on Jan 6th and then bring out the large snowman collection. I read 71 books this year. I keep track on Goodreads. About half of those were audio books downloaded through the Libby app. I listen to audio when I'm quilting, doing jigsaw puzzles or driving.
I treated myself to a small bottle of proseco on New Year's Eve.

I still will have some Christmas decor to take down when we get home. I put our snowmen for January too! I haven’t read the Kate Ballard books. I keep track on Goodreads, do you? Or do you have a pencil and paper notebook? This year I made my goal, but no where near as many as in prior years. Except last year…I read only 5!

Hi, just lovely January decor there Dian. How nice that you celebrate with champagne and what a great tradition. My friend is a huge Michael Connelly fan and how I wish I was too. Reading is a great hobby. I've noted that Christmas special so thanks for mentioning it. Happy New Year to you and Mike!
