Good morning, and happy Thursday, friends! Thank you so much for all of your kind notes about my mom. Friends are sure good therapy. So is a Christmas tree - light in this dark time of year really helps me.
Laughter is good medicine, too. We watched a fun Christmas movie over the weekend - "Red One" on Prime Video. It is not your typical Christmas movie, pretty wild and crazy, but fun. I especially loved Dwayne Johnson (the Rock!) as Santa's Head of Security!
I've been enjoying this book this week. I haven't read a WWII historical fiction book in a long time, but glad I read this one. It has some interesting twists and turns! And I do love a coffee date with a good book, too!
LeeAnna's question of the week is about our Christmases growing up - what were they like? That is a fun time to think about! My dad was a mechanical engineer and he liked everything just so. That means that on Christmas morning, we had to stay in our bedrooms until 7 am. When we came downstairs, we first had to eat some breakfast, and then finally got to open our presents. Oh, wait, there would be the picture in our jammies first!
With all of that, I'm sure you know, too, that we opened our presents one at a time. I don't remember what order we did it in - knowing my dad there was a plan for that. Youngest to oldest, maybe? Good memories!

Good morning, Diann and Happy Thursday. Aaah what a darling Christmas photo of you and your family and what sweet memories. If we did not wake early ourselves, we always seemed to hear the faint "Ho Ho Ho" which brought us running to the tree as kiddos. Then paper went to flying. Your tree is so gorgeous and festive. I want to see Red One. My daughter went to see it and said it was a good movie. Enjoy your day. Hugs.
When I was a child, We had to eat breakfast before we could open presents too. Our family tradition is to have gingerbread scones and fruit as we open the gifts. Great memories! Gail at the cozy quilter
What is it with engineers? My Dad (chemical), the same! We had to line up by age to go down the stairs (at least I, being the youngest, went first). We could open our stockings while Mother was prepping the traditional breakfast of Stollen that she had labored over for days, making it for all their friends. Then it was one gift at a time, with plenty of time to ooh and aah over each one, but I don't remember a particular order.
What a pretty tree! Love the story about your childhood Christmas. My best memory is Daddy reading the Christmas story. Of course when I was young, I couldn't wait for him to finish reading - lol!
We all care about you and your Mom Diann! I am praying peace of mind for you.
Your tree is lovely! I"m so glad you watched the Dwayne Johnson movie--my husband and I are looking forward to watching that this weekend! Sending hugs!
Your tree is so pretty! I am so sorry about your Mom. May you and your sister have peace through it all.
Your Christmas tree is so pretty, Diann. I also spy a beautiful basket quilt :) I love the Christmas photo of your family, smiles all around.
your house is festive and the movie looks like a fun one to see. I have some photos of Christmas growing up but not many. Coming from a huge not very much money family we all got one present and a Christmas sock. We took turns opening them and then had breakfast - and off course there were plenty of cookies and candy around the house too. When us older kids started earning money from babysitting & farmwork etc we bought gifts or made gifts for our younger siblings so they had more than we did but they so enjoyed it.
I love the pic of little you and the tree. We are the same generation and it's fun to talk about the way it was. Raised by an engineer... so different from me .
My adoptive father wasn't ever there for Christmas morning and the mother just hovered. But we took the same pics.
I used to make crepes and yours look great. I made English tavern crepes with thinly sliced ham, cheddar cheese and something...
even had a crepe maker LeeAnna
We watched a Prime movie the other night called The Fabric of Christmas. Don't you wish it would stay lighter long into the evening.
What a great Christmas morning photo! Sounds like you have just the right amount of laughter going on in your household!
I forgot about this week's question when I wrote up my post, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading yours. Ours was similar, so it brings back memories. Thanks for the book and movie reviews - I'm going to put those on my list. I hope you, Mike and your family have a wonderful Christmas!
Your tree is very pretty. I haven't been up to the bother - but we have candles in the windows that are very cheering. Red One looks like a hoot! Your Christmas sounds a lot like ours. We were allowed to sneak out of our bedrooms after 6:30 but we'd have to be really quiet not to get caught by Dad. You bring back lots of good memories.
Christmas memories are such special ones. I'm hoping our daughter has good ones, her Christmas's were very different from my own as a child.
