The Colors of the Season

Fall colors are often my favorites, especially if you ask me in October!   Rusty reds, brown, gold, orange - all so delightful to sew with at this time of year.  I brought home this small bundle of Fall fabrics after our trip to Oregon at the end of September and have been sewing with it ever since.  Last week's post about my pumpkin project is here, if you are curious!

My obsession with fall prints extended to a little squirrel this past week, which turned into a Drop Everything and Make It tabletopper for my mom.

The star block is from Carole's Autumn Jubilee design for a table runner.
I added my own borders to bring this little topper to about 21.5 x 12.5.

I used my favorite walking foot quilting design, a curved grid, to add lots of fun texture to the tabletopper.

Of course I had to use the Thankful fabric for the backing, and the brown and gold leaf print for the binding - more favorites!

It didn't take long at all for this squirrelly project to be finished up -

Sharing at my favorite weekend parties!
Oh Scrap! on Sunday

So pretty, and I love the curved grid. Sometimes I like a little bit of the fall colors, but only in October! :)

I love that curved crosshatch quilting! Did you use your walking foot for that? It's such a versatile motif! I often use it over panels when I want them to sort of "shine through" the quilting :)

Love your placemats! Those fabrics are just perfect.

I like your checkerboard sides and the curved grid quilting. The quilting gives me an idea for finishing a baby quilt in a split rail fence design. Happy fall, hope you haven't gotten too much snow so far.

It's perfect! I love how you added borders just on the ends, and the fabric is my fav color range too!

Great table topper! Of course I love the star. Thanks for the tip on the curved cross hatch quilting. I will have to try that!

You know, the squirrels have been pretty quiet around here, but seeing that cute little table runner is getting them a bit excited. I have those rulers, y'know. Hmm. Anyway, I'm sure your mom will love it and it's a perfect finish for fall!

Squirrels are best in the fall—they’re very busy then, you know. Your mom will love the topper. I’m an autumn lover, so I get your attraction to the fall colors. I think Fall rejuvenates the quilting bug with the cool, crisp air and bright colors.

I'm with you on fall colors! Your squirrel is so pretty. The quilting reminds me of the motion of falling leaves. Didn't you say you got the backing at Hobby Lobby? I may have to go buy some of that!

Oh Diann, I love this table topper! I bet your mom did too. That's a great walking foot design too; must remember that for placemats (there are yet some more in my future as per request!) I saw the post after this too, and yuck on the white stuff, hope it didn't or doesn't last! I know they've had it north of you in Alberta too. We are still nice and green with lots of trees in glorious colours here, some still green but won't be for much longer. :-)Thanks for linking up with the late DrEAMI party!

I love quilting in curves. It removes the pressure of keeping my grid even.
