I Like Thursday #158 -Happy Halloween!

I loved this scene that my brother-in-law set up
outside their condo in Scottsdale, Arizona!

It's not looking so Halloweenish at our house right now - more like mid-January I'd say...

But, here's what I think -

This week, I liked finishing up my Hand-Pieced Pumpkins!

I have to share a couple more pictures because I just love this little project!

I hand quilted with ecru perle cotton, echoing most of the seams, and making some swirls around where I did the embroidery.

For the binding, I just brought the backing around to the front, did a little fancy folding, and stitched it with the perle cotton, too.

This was one of those little projects that was just pure enjoyment - a few stitches every evening for a month, and it all came together.   Thanks, again, to Patty, at Elm Street Quilts, who inspired me to get started on the pumpkins!

I enjoyed this article by Tom Hanks that I found in the AARP magazine about friendship.  I love Tom Hanks - looking forward to seeing his movie about Mr. Rogers!

And finally, on this day of Tricks and Treats, here is my favorite treat!

Yum!

Hope you're having a great day!  Join me and lots of friends at Not Afraid of Color for "I Like Thursday!"

I like reading your posts :). That little pumpkin piece turned out so cute and I really like the hand quilting you did. We don't have snow here in mid-Michigan YET, but we've been warned that it might be here tomorrow :( ; I am NOT a winter person. Enjoy those cookies.

There is nothing better than finishing a project that gives you delight and joy. Your little pumpkin project is so fun and just lovely! Oh my, that snow will soon be part of our landscape too. The little thought about snow is so true; I need to keep that in mind. I have always liked Tom Hanks as well, from way back when he was just getting started to now. Bet it's a good article to read!

I like the snow quote and now that I'm retired, it's a lot easier to feel that way about snow when I don't have to drive in it daily. Lovely pumpkin project. I never did find the pumpkins I made two years ago. They're here somewhere. The trick is that when I find them, I need to make them into something right then. We're having a rainy Halloween with high winds and a big temperature drop due tonight and tomorrow. Happy Halloween.

I have that magazine but haven't read the article yet. I've liked Tom Hanks since he was in bosom buddies. True about the snow here... better find something to like or you'll hate it. I'm very disappointed with it for killing the color and my mums at the moment, and making too much ice for me to walk. I'd better find something to like and quick.
It would be easier if I'd not been raised in the East with it's lovely fall...
Your pumpkins are fabulous! And done! the embroidery is so cute, lots of people are having a renewed love affair with embroidery including me. There are shows you can enter with categories Hand Made, except I think even the binding should be put on by hand...

Diann, your quilt is looking FANTASTIC! The quilting is adding additional movement to the piece! LOVE IT! I love Milanos too. I'm looking forward to seeing Tom Hanks in the Mr. Rogers movie, I loved the article too! Have a great day!

Hi Diann! Boy howdy - I love that saying for the snow. I am going to adopt that - no sense complaining about the snow. If you can't find something to enjoy about it, then you just have to move. You can't change the weather! I cannot wait to see the Mr. Rogers movie. I think Tom Hanks is an excellent choice for this role. Yum to Milano cookies. Happy Halloween! ~smile~ Roseanne

I appreciate the thought in your snow meme. And the embroidery on your pumpkins quilt, as well as the binding detail, add so much!!!

Well first of all Diann, I am blown away by your snow. It is hard to believe that we, so much further north, have not seen a flake yet and none in the forecast. Funny how the weather can be. We did have high winds last night that took down a lot of our leaves.
Yes, we must embrace what we cannot control that's for sure.
You know I adore your pumpkins...they have my favourite combination -patchwork and embroidery. It is a beautiful finish!

I just LOVE your pumpkin blocks! The hand stitching was just icing on the cake.
I saw on the weather maps that your area was getting heavy snow and cold air. Wow! Did you have any Trick or Treaters? We have none out here on our rural dirt road. Can't say I miss them though - lol!

Very true words about the snow, though I guess they are true for any type of adverse weather conditions. The pumpkins turned out beautifully. Though it seems we've gone from pumpkin season to snow man season pretty quickly this year?
