I had checked her Christmas book out of the library and made several of the designs back then, but this is the first one I've owned. I took it to Office Depot and had them cut off the binding and put a spiral binding on it. That is so helpful!
Of course, I want to make everything in it, like this one -
But I decided to start with these sweet little baskets.
After I embroider a few, I'll add some patchwork like the pattern shows and make a little wall-hanging.
These will go into the queue of hand-stitching projects that I'm enjoying these days!
Updated on Saturday - one little basket finished!
Sharing at Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.
In other happy things this week, we loved seeing this movie!
A fun story line, good acting, a little romance, and lots of our favorite music - perfect!
I took my new little camera to the fireworks on the 4th and tried out the fireworks setting. It was fun seeing what I could capture!
I love Rainier cherries! So yummy!
And I liked this meme that I saw on Facebook the other day.
I definitely have a lot of ideas laying around in my sewing room!
Thanks for visiting today! Don't forget to check out the other I Like Thursday posts at Not Afraid of Color.
I hope the good ideas don't disappear when we clean up! Cute basket design with the interchangeable flowers :)
I can see why you want to make all the embroidery projects, what you have shown all appeal to me also! The movie sounds great, we too love the Beatles music.
Fun post! I can't wait to see your embroidered baskets! We love cherries too but it wasn't a stellar year here for them. Enjoy them for us too! Cheers!
Good Thursday Morning, Diann. Fun post. Your camera took a perfect picture of the fireworks. I have never had a camera (or the ability) to do that. Will have to look for that movie, looks interesting. Thank you for sharing ... :-) Pat
Good morning, great things to like. Your camera did an awesome job taking photos with your assistance.....or is it the other way around?
I wish all quilting books came spiral bound. I have had a couple that I took in to have that done and they charged me almost as much as the book cost to do it. We have no Office Depot here - that looks like a good book to have
Hi Diann! Love this post. And that new book looks like it has some FUN patterns in it. I especially like the "and they stitched happily ever after." Oh, and Yesterday!! I am dying to go see that movie and haven't yet because I haven't felt well enough. Maybe this weekend before it goes away. I know I'll just love the music and what a fun premise for a movie. I'm dying to know how it ends - how do you wrap up that premise?!! I'll have to wait and see. ~smile~ Roseanne
Loving that creativity sign--oh how true--when an idea hits you have to drop everything and start on it!!
We also love cherries--so satisfyingly just sweet enough...have a wonderful weekend...hugs, Julierose
How sweet. I love the look of embroidery, but don't have the patience for it.
LOVE that quote! Yes a pile of ideas laying around! For sure. I don't even apologize for my studio piles when someone visits now, I figure it proves I'm a working artist. Love the embroidery designs, that will make for hours of stitching fun. Now I want to go get rainier cherries, love them. My vege are finally sprouting, so late in the season DH says the zucchini will be a $50 specimen and so will the tomatoes if they ever actually fruit! Just flowers so far. On the other hand we have a bumper crop of mosquitoes.
What a great idea to have that book rebound. Of course those baskets are going to be sweet. Nice work on that fireworks photo! I so enjoyed this post. Thanks. mary
The embroideries are super cute! You'll have to share them with us as you go along. And I'm glad you enjoyed Yesterday, I've been wondering whether I should go see it!
Love and am envious of your happy mail! You are going to love stitching these little designs and with your quilting skills, make beautiful things with them.
I saw the trailer for Yesterday and thought it quite clever and what a beautiful voice that young man has. Of course, I've been seeing (twice now) the spiderman movie with the 14 year old grandson. Also good.
What a smart idea to have your book spiralized! Good to know. Excellent “capture” on the fireworks, I love Rainier cherries too. I made cherry jam from a recipe by David Leibovitz and used Rainier cherries, and it was excellent.
I need to see Yesterday. Mmm.. cherries, fireworks and creative people. LOL. Lots of good stuff.
Love your post--as always--
new camera--I need a new one--but can't decide on one--
can I ask you what new one you got????
my smaller camera is going on 10years old--time for a new one--
have a great day--
I love that quote. I'm not messy at all. lol. I didn't know you could change a book's binding like that. I'm going to remember that.
I love that embroidery book! So many great ideas. The spiral binding is so practical. Your firework picture is perfect! I saw that movie advertised and wasn't sure if I'd like it. You made it sound good. I don't think I'm messy! Your quote reinforced it!! Love your likes!!
Love your likes. Messy? Who me? Lol
Spiral binding is a fab idea. Gotta tuck that one away for future.
So many good things to like, but I'm especially glad to hear that "mess" in my quilt room is just all my ideas. Glad I can just leave them there, although I might need to organize my thoughts a bit more . . .
Such a fun basket! Enjoy the cherry season.... guess I should get a few for the cherry loving ones' in my house.
I love the little embroidered basket! I just embroidered two quilt labels, but I am still itching for some counted cross stitching.
One of my favorite Gail Pan books, a few years ago I attended a hand embroidery class and we made the needle book on the cover and the love pincushion too. A few years later the Christmas patchwork and embroidery books was used in a class to make the tree skirt. Enjoy your stitching. Love that quote.
Cute stitchery. I have never done Gail Pan stitchery. I will have to see about getting a book!
I like your embroidered basket. I didn't know you could get a spiral binding put on a book. Hmmm. I want to see that movie too, but our local theater was just closed due to a rat infestation. Yuk! I will wait until I can see it at home.
What fun eye candy on your post! Enjoy your new book... great idea to put on the coil binding!
We have another slow stitcher making those baskets...check out Birthe's blog!
