Playing with Pink

What better way to celebrate a new month and a new color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge than to start a new project?!  (I know you're laughing at me!)

I've had a Low Volume quilt on my quilty bucket list for a long time, and after reading this post from Cathy at Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilting, I knew I wanted to make some Bright Hopes blocks just to see how I like them.    Cathy found these blocks at Red Pepper Quilts and shared the link where there is a tutorial for them.

Although they do have a partial seam involved in their construction, these blocks are really simple to make, and once I made the first one, I knew what to do.

I've made just a few so far, playing with fabric placement, and trying to answer the question, "Just what is considered a low volume fabric anyway?"

My plan is to stick with fabrics that have a white background (rather than cream or beige) with pops of pink and aqua.   Some stash enhancement may be needed, lol!  My blocks are the 6.5 inch size - 2.5 inch center square and 2.5 x 4.5 outer rectangles.

Meanwhile, I also finished up some Tiny Tuesday blocks.  Last week's kitten in a basket got its gray sashing.

Thanks, Libby!

I've made 33 Tiny Tuesday blocks so far, which is more than the weeks in the year, I know!  Anytime there was an extra, I made it, plus I've made two blocks twice.  Those duplicates may or may not make it into the final quilt!

But here they all are.  Lots of pretty color!

I have 13 blocks set on point and 20 with the straight setting.  That's something I'll have to pay more attention to as the year goes on as it will definitely affect how I lay them out for a quilt.

There are lots more pink scraps laying around on my cutting mat and sewing table waiting to be sewn up into blocks, so I'd better get back to work!  Looking forward to seeing how the other Rainbow Scrap Quilters got the month started with pink.

Linking up with Soscrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday!

I have not even gotten out my pink box to look and see what I have yet! I really want to get what I am working on done on the design wall to the point I can take it off before I start the pinks at this rate the month will be close to gone before that happens.
All of yours is looking good

Ugh!! Seeing them all laid out like that makes me want to go back and make the 25 blocks that I missed. Thanks, a LOT, Diann!!

You're really motivated with Tiny Tuesday. Good for you! And your Bright Hopes look great so far. Now I want to make a low volume piece :)

I love Bright Hopes! It makes such a lovely quilt. And I like the lighter colors, too. That will be intriguing. Somehow I missed the kitten in a basket, but it certainly is cute!

Your tiny Tuesday blocks look amazing. I hope they all make the cut.

I saw Cathy's blocks and considered starting the same low volume project. But now I am thinking I might redesign it for an RSC quilt. They are such a cute block!

Your TT blocks look fantastic together! Way to stick with it! I’m trying not to be tempted by new blocks, but it is so hard!

No, I am not laughing at you. I am laughing with you. Well more like smiling. With such sweet blocks and pretty pinks there is no reason to sulk. I am making pink blocks and pink makes me happy.

I am not participating in RSC this year, but you almost make me regret it! Love your sweet little blocks! The way you have them displayed on the design wall makes me think that they would look great sewn with narrow white sashing. At any rate, I am sure you will come up with the right setting...plenty of time to consider it.

I also saw the Bright Hopes blocks. Very tempting as well! :)
