In between sewing up the blocks for my Beothuk Star, I cut up lots of different blues into 4.5 inch squares and stitched up a patchwork piece to see what it might look like as the sky for my Scrappy Sprouts project.
Birds, butterflies, sky, clouds, sun and flowers. This could work! I have lots more to do on this project - good thing we have two months to work on blue!
And I'm continuing to slowly hand piece these blocks with my blue scraps every evening.
Every group of four small blocks gets sewn together into the larger 12 inch star block.
Inspired by Cynthia's Oh Scrap post last Sunday, I had to go dig out more blue scraps and cut a bunch of 2.5 inch pieces.
Dark navy blue to almost white with just a hint of blue...
Because I wanted to see if I could make a block like this -
Laying it out...
All sewn up!
I see more of these my scrappy future!
And finally, the first dark blue Tiny Tuesday block - my (sort of wonky, but I'm okay with it for now) Grandmother's Fan.
Looking forward to more with my blue scraps this week!

The scrappy blues are really pretty. I love your "gradation" block. I can see how you were inspired by Cynthia's post. I hope you get to play some more in your room this weekend!
You have Cynthia's block down-no worries you'll come up with a while quilt before long;) She is such an instigator isn't she-in the best way!!
lots of blue! I am going to use dark blues this month - she said two months of blue right? dark this month and then light/brights next month?
So many fun blue blocks!
It's fun how you read a blog and get inspired, and that becomes a whole new creative experiment!
the last one is really modern. I haven't started with my blues yet.
Until recently I would have said I have hardly any blue in my stash. But a recent reorg found just as much blue as my favorite color green! LOLYour blocks are all lovely!
Sew much fun blue in your studio! Love the sky piece.. gives me some ideas for some 'kites' I have sitting around...... =)
Your Grandmother's Fan block looks great! Did you use the paper piecing method or regular piecing? I am waffling as to how to start! I like the blue background for your scrappy sprouts. Great idea!
You've made a lot of blue progress for this early in the month! I really like where you are going with the sprouts sky.
I love your 25-patch gradient blue block! I saw that on Cynthia’s blog too and fell in love. I believe she used (masterfully) the same technique in her Geese Migration quilt. Your idea for the sky of Scrappy Sprouts is super; I hope you go with it. Can’t wait to see that gem finished!!
The color wash block is super! Now I want to start making those for RSC. Must. Resist. New. Projects! :)
You're singing the blues, in a good way! So many fun blocks!
Wow, I love the "colorwash" block. It's like a log cabin. Oh, no, is that another squirrel?
What a productive week in dark BLUE!!!
The sight of all those pretty blues does make me smile. I can see you are having way too much fun designing with all these lovely fabrics.
Just caught up on your posts, Diann. Love seeing the terrain where you and hubby are hiking. Yes, that yellow bird in the grayish trees definitely looks quilt worthy. Loved seeing all your sisters/friends photos and your mini quilt too. AND all these so pretty blues. I'm especially fond of the fan and trying out that colourwash from light to dark. I would love to try that too.
So many blues!! I think you nailed it on each and every project. I'm curious about your Sprout project and can't wait to see where it's going!
I love the idea of a scrappy blue background. I can't wait to see it.
All of your blocks look fantastic. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
Love your blues, my favorite color. Love the idea of a scrappy background!
I'm impressed with your hand piecing! And at least someone seems to be moving ahead with their sprouts. Blue sky is a great idea.
You've got so many beautiful blues. I love your star blocs and the way you sew it.
Oh how I love blue, so this was a treat for the eyes with all your blue stuff going on! I really like that gradation block with the 2.5" squares and the blue section of my squares tray is the largest, so I might need to do one of these...
Ooh, how lovely!
