I'm singing along with the Dixie Chicks in my head this morning... "Wide open spaces..."
"Who doesn't know what I'm talking about
Who's never left home, who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone"
There's nothing my husband and I like better than finding a beautiful new spot to wander and explore, and the other day we did just that!
We had to drive a ways to get there, way out in the boonies, almost to Wyoming, and on lots of dirt roads. Wide open spaces!
Our trail followed this creek -
And into a canyon of red cliffs.
Looking up...
Looking down...
Lots of bird noises, but hard to see them, except this little guy!
I can see this as a little yellow warbler in a quilted piece - can you? I might have to try that!
Waving hello from the wide open spaces, with not another soul around!
"Down that red dirt road..." (Are you singing along with me now? :)
Thanks for visiting on "I Like Thursday!" Hope you're having a great week!

thanks so much for the virtual voyage--love those red rock cliffs..I agree that little warbler would be lovely in a quilt...nice memory of your trip...hugs, Julierose
Thanks. I am singing too as we venture on this fun voyage. Beauty all around even in the birds
What a beautiful place to wander! The cliffs reminded me of those buried Chinese soldiers.
What an awesome place to visit. The bird is gorgeous. How great to find a place that is not inundated with a bazillion people. I will say that is one of the hardest parts of living in the Midwest or East is that there are not many places that you can get away from people.
Wow you drove almost to Wyoming, how exciting! I would have too, cliffs and canyons and mountains are my favorite kind of scenery. How far did you hike? It looks like it was coolish, and do I spy some thunderheads above the mountains? What fun!
Hi Diann! I am so glad you decided to take a ride to such a pretty spot. And even more, that you shared all the photos with us. Oh my goodness, that sweet yellow birdie is so pretty. Does he sing as pretty as he looks?! I meant to comment on your sister post as well - such nice photos of all the women peeps in your circle. Co-workers turned into lifelong friends are just the best, aren't they? And sisters of all sorts are fab. I love your wall hanging of the International Sisters. It turned out so cute. ~smile~ Roseanne
You found a little hidden gem there! I definitely was singing in my head(you wouldn't want to hear me sing out loud) along with you.
looks like a wonderful place to wander at this time of year before it gets hot!! beautiful
I love wide open spaces and new adventures.
Looks like a fun wander -- so many pretty views!
Pretty yellow warbler! Wow - big sky! I like the striations on those canyons.
That was a good trail! I like to imagine myself on trails that I read about and know I'll never to experience personally. :-)
That was sooo worth the drive- thank you for sharing photos of your amazing state.
Love your yellow bird. Had to stop everything and paint it. LeeAnna
