I Like Thursday #131 - On the Road

We spent Easter weekend at our son's house in Nebraska.  Seeing the "Welcome" sign reminded me of all the times we stopped at the border of a new state to take a picture when our kids were little to snap a picture.

We did not stop to take a picture on this trip, so while hunting around for one to include in this post, I found this interesting article.

50 Welcome Signs for the 50 United States of America

We enjoyed the time with our son - conversation, games, food, a ballgame on TV - our favorite stuff.  We also enjoyed seeing a family of wild turkeys!

I always have to visit the quilt shop when we are there, and this time I bought a few turquoise fat quarters to add to my stash, plus a charm pack of Garden Variety by Lella Boutique.  That will be fun to play with!

I'm sure I'll be cutting into those turquoise pieces before this month is over!

My son's favorite fruit is strawberries, so they are always on the menu when we are with him.  When we got home, I decided I had to drop everything and make...

A strawberry!  (More about this little project later this week!)

Last week we had a chance to get up into the mountains to Estes Park to enjoy the scenery and a walk by the lake there.

Driving up into Rocky Mountain National Park, we passed a herd of deer.

This photo found on Facebook made me laugh this week!  Now I have not experienced this, but I know people who have.

I hope you're having a wonderful week!  Thanks for visiting and don't forget to check out the other I Like Thursday posts at Not Afraid of Color!

oh how funny - I have never thought about the problems UPS might have in some places due to wild life - I would not get out of the vehicle either!
glad you had fun in Nebraska - my husband always says he loved his childhood in Nebraska even though he had family problems there of a divided family - back in the 50's and early 60's it was a really nice place to grow up although I think back in those days almost every place was

Good Morning, Diann,

Pretty strawberry block! I think I need to find a few aqua fat quarters and just add them to my scraps. There is a small quilt guild show this weekend. Maybe I will go aqua shopping in their sale baskets. It took me a minute before I realized that said "bear" in driveway. Oh, my. The welcome sign for Massachusetts on that site is a new one somewhere, probably on the turnpike. The ones near my frequent back road and highway state line crossings are functional but not so pretty. We gathered at one of my son's homes and saw the "Live Free or Die" welcome sign on the way there. We joke sometimes that New Hampshire needs to update their signs to say "Tax Free and Buy" as they have no state tax there. They do have lots of highway tolls, though, and State Liquor Stores. That is how they like to raise cash in NH ... encourage the Massachusetts shoppers to come and pay tolls and buy. Must admit we shop in NH as it is 15 minutes away. My favorite local quilt shop is there. Need to go there today and find out when my long arm is coming home. Another chance to buy aqua fat quarters. Thanks for sharing Thursday with me ... :) Pat

We spent a little time in Rocky Mt a few years ago while visiting Colorado...hope to go back soon. That's quite a "no delivery" slip....ha ha.

Well, the bear in the driveway would do it for me too. Haha! How far are you from Estes? We rented a place there a few years ago, each morning and evening hearing the bugle of the elk. So cool!

Your strawberry is adorable! And the bear notice too funny, but I imagine it could definitely happen :)

Lovely post, Diann. The UPS guys here have noted that we have a guard dog; I guess they keep a record of it. Not that Rex would ever get near them as his fenced 3 acres are in the back of the house away from the driveway. Meanwhile, that note is too funny.
I love your strawberry block. Going to be so cute.
I don't have much aqua at all...bet you will whip up something great with those pretty tones.
How great to get photos of wildlife on your travels. Beautiful spaces.

The UPS notice is hysterical. I don't think our deer and chipmunks have ever scared off the UPS driver. Glad you were able to spend some time with your son. Hope things are warming up out your way.

Thank you for sharing about your trip to see your son! I JUST found this great recipe for stuffed strawberries at https://www.terristeffes.com/2017/05/lemon-cheesecake-stuffed-strawberries.html. Your fabrics are nice peaceful colors and that strawberry block is so cute! Take good care!

There really is a Nebraska state sign! This past week I watched a new sitcom about a NY couple that inherited a farm in Nebraska, so off they went. In the show, they stand in front of a sign with that Nebraska slogan. Now I wonder if they actually shot the show in Nebraska. It's great writing and humor. Your strawberry is so cute! You almost had me jumping out of my seat to go start a fun project of any sort.
