Bowtie Business and a little Unsewing...

A couple of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge WiPs needed some attention this week, and since I am all done with the red blocks I needed to make for July, I pulled them out.

The bowtie blocks are so close to being ready to sew together into a flimsy, and I'm very ready to work on a finish right now!

I decided to stop at 90 blocks, which will make a quilt about 54 x 61, which is a good size for me to finish up.  You can see I just need a few more blocks, and after laying everything out the other day, I think I need to make a few more purples and a few more oranges.

These will work for that purpose!

I also decided it was time to remake the purple Scrappy Sprouts that I first made way back in February.

At that time, I didn't really have a clear vision for this project, so I mixed the light and dark purples in both blocks.  After making more blocks as the months went on, I realized that I liked making a light block and a dark block for each color, and these didn't fit in!

So, I  pulled the blocks apart into their basic parts, rearranged a little, and ended up with this -

The dark purple sprout had plenty of squares and HSTs to go back together easily, but you can see that I didn't have enough in the lavendar colors.

So, after hunting around in my stash, I came up with a strip out of a jelly roll that I received for participating in Hands2Help earlier this year.  (I was a really late entrant to that event, but Sarah still sent me this pretty fabric, bless her!  I'll definitely use it to make a quilt donation for next year, but more about that another day!:)

It's really perfect for this block!

And now these two blocks look soooo much better!

And they fit in much better with the rest of the blocks, too!

I love your bowtie blocks! A scrappy bowtie quilt has been on my bucket list for years, I'm going to have to make that a priority for my 2019 RSC project. The sprout blocks are fun too. You are going to have some great scrappy finishes soon.

Both of your quilts are coming together so well! I really like the Scrappy Sprouts. Good call on rearranging the purples.

I'm kind of in love with that bowtie quilt ... still! I think you did the right thing with your purple sprouts by remaking them. Seeing the blocks together make so much more sense to me!

Lots of work for the Sprouts but it was worth it. I like better too. ;^)

The light and dark look great as separate petals. So darn cute.

The sprouts really work well as one dark, one light. That was a smart decision to go that direction :)

Great idea to adjust those sprout blocks. They look so much better with your other blocks. I love both of these projects. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

Yay for you! Being so close to a finish! I have so few finishes that I think any finish is a really big deal and will give you big hoorays any time you have one. I really think your sprout blocks look wonderful!

Nicely done on these 2 RSC tops. 90 blocks is a lot. The tulips look so much better since you changed them.

Yes the reworked sprout blocks blend right in. I love the orange/yellow scraps you pulled out with the oval rings for more bow ties.
