ScrapHappy Saturday - Red Hot!

Has it been hot where you live?  It definitely has been here...  Fortunately, my sewing studio is in the basement, which isn't everyone's favorite location, but for me it's an ideal spot in the summer!

This week there was lots of red sewing going on!  My first goal was to make two blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge Squared Away Sampler.

I found two red fabrics in my stash to use for these blocks -

I wasn't actually sure if the print would work very well for this purpose, but it was what I had, and that's what this project is all about, right?!  Using what you have?!

Here are my two red blocks -

I do like the way the print fabric looks after all!  There are a few bits of pink and green in it, and since there are both pink and green blocks in this project, I think this will fit in just fine!

I took just a moment to play with these blocks on some Kona White yardage which is the background color of these blocks.

I'm wondering what other color might make a fun sashing color for these pretty blocks...

Also this week, I finished up the rest of the red bowties that I planned
for this month -

as well as all of the tiny rails needed for a 10 inch block -

It turns out that I have more than enough red scraps to make two of these blocks this month - a bright red one and another out of my darker reds.  More on that next week!

Hope there was some Red Hot sewing going on at your house this week!  Linking up with Angela at SoScrappy.

That red print really sparkles in the block! And your growing collection of blocks is looking very fine. Maybe a striped sashing in bright colors would be fun. Or turquoise, which seems to work with everything :)

You've made great progress on a lot of blocks. My basement sewing space is cooler than the rest of the house too. I have lots of windows so it is a light space too.

the blocks look great. It has been terribly hot here too, I had to start to water outside plants it is so dry - normally humid here but some days it has been as low as 40% humidity and 97 degrees for high --- way too hot!

You're getting as good as Amanda at Crazy Mom Quilts at using your scraps! I do love the way those reds went together.

I'm glad that your red print worked out for your block, it does blend right in. Could you possibly use one of the upcoming months color for the sashing instead of using it as a block?

Hot here too. Good for you for making what you have work. I think that white will make a nice back ground for your blocks.

Your blocks look great! I'm starting to put my quilt together and I'm thinking about using either a gray and white print or a pale yellow for the sashing. We'll see how it goes.

Your sampler blocks are coming together beautifully. I like your on point setting for those. I may have to play with that option. Happy stitching this week.
