To-Do Tuesday #29

Hope all of you are healthy and safe out there!  These are trying times...

But we quilters have plenty to do, don't we?!  I did pretty well on last week's list.

I finished up my Crabapple Hill embroidery piece.  See more about that in this post.  I also finished up the final block of my blue and white project!

Now I have to decide how to finish this off.  I was planning to hand stitch the blocks together, but I may just machine stitch in order to make it go faster!

I bought template plastic for the new blocks of the Book Club Hand-pieced QAL, but the first block could be rotary cut, so I went that route.  Pieces are cut:

And I've already been working on hand-piecing the sections.

Lots of turquoise HSTs have been made for my zigzag project, too.

Just need a few more!

And, I did glue baste the Dresden sunflowers onto the Scrappy Sprouts quilt top, too!

So this week's list is all about making more progress on all of the above!

1.  Finish up the Evelyn block for the Book Club QAL.  You can read more about this in Patty's post.  I think I'd like to read the book this block is based on, too!

2.  Finish the rest of the turquoise HSTs.

3.  Get the applique stitches done on the sunflowers so that the quilt top can be prepped for quilting.

4.  And, maybe, sew the blue and white blocks together.  Or I might just put that one on the shelf for awhile until I'm inspired by it again!  :)

A couple small finishes

I have to show one more picture of my Crabapple Hill SAL finish.  There was a lot of pink in this project, so I bound it in green, and I like how that looks!

It now lives on the wall down in my sewing room where I can enjoy it everyday.

This week I also finished another project from Patchwork Loves Embroidery, by Gail Pan.  The embroidery was finished in August of last year.

Although the book shows this design made into a tote bag, I decided this would make a great zipper pouch for a friend who does lots of hand sewing.  So I sewed two panels for the front and back of the pouch.

After I did some simple quilting to hold everything together, and sewed in the zipper, the pouch was a quick finish!

The black and red fabric that I used for this project is a Jo Morton line, and I loved the selvage from it.

I don't know if you can see, but it says, "Life's a journey not a race."

Switching gears for slow-stitching this week, I'm ready to start on the first block of the Book Club Hand-Pieced QAL, "Evelyn."

I'm going to be making the blocks for the QAL out of a variety of red prints with Kona Snow for the background.

This week in teal scraps...

was a bit lacking, because I was determined to finish a couple other projects that deserve their own post!

But here's how the design wall is looking as of Friday.

I've added a few teal HSTs to my zigzag.  I also got out the 10 inch color gradient blocks I started playing with last year because they need a teal/turquoise/aqua block.

Here's my effort on that one so far -

I need to hunt around for a few more 2.5 inch squares and
then play with the layout a bit more.

And Friday afternoon at the sewing machine... a few more HSTs, some 3.5 inch four-patches, and a Bright Hopes block with some turquoise - no stress sewing.

Look at this adorable tiny, turquoise bicycle!

I Like Thursday #177

Happy Thursday!  Hope you're having a great week!  A few days ago, we went back out searching for the local bald eagles, this time with Mike's good camera.  And here's what we saw -

This guy was perched in a tree, and just as we got up close to him, he took off.  The sky was perfect for getting a good picture!

I've been quilting my Crabapple Hill embroidery this week.  This is my favorite corner of this design!  Tonight I'm sewing the binding.

We decided the other day that we should try making some wonton soup.  There are lots of different recipes out there for it, and several of them suggested these frozen wontons from Trader Joe's, so that's what we got.

The soup itself is simple to make, mostly broth and seasonings.  You add the frozen wontons just for a few minutes right at the end.  It was tasty!

I found some Sumo oranges the other day, and they really are good!  This is a photo from Delish.com.

This interesting article accompanied the picture.

And if you need help figuring out how long 20 seconds of handwashing would last, try this!

Can you remember all that?!  :)

To-Do Tuesday #28

Happy Tuesday morning, friends!  Did you successfully "Spring Forward" over the weekend?  It always takes me a few days to adjust my body clock, but I'm almost there!

I was successful with everything on my list for the past week - let me show you!

The Crabapple Hill embroidery is finished, a border added, and layered for quilting.  Here's how it looks as of Sunday evening -

I'm doing some simple handquilting through the rows and around the outside of the design.  Hoping to have it all finished up by the end of the week!

The turquoise trees for March in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge are finished.  Here are all of my trees for this quilt so far!

And the final block for my blue and white hand-pieced and embroidery quilt is close to being finished.

What's on the list for this week?

1.  Handwork on both of the above projects - ongoing!  This is my evening stitching.

2.  The new Book Club QAL is starting up and there are templates this year.  I need to find some  template plastic and get the templates for the first block made up.

3.  I want to get started on the turquoise HSTs for my Zigzag quilt.  Green and orange are made, and need to be sewn together in their rows.

4.  And, last but definitely not least - I'd like to get the sunflowers appliqued onto the Scrappy Sprouts quilt top.  I'm thinking I'll do this by machine just to make it go faster.

Question for those of you out there with more applique experience than me - would you glue baste them on first?  That worked well for keeping the centers in place before stitching!

Scrappy Slow-Stitching Sunday

I finished up the International Embroidery Month Crabapple Hill Stitch-along project this week - the embroidery part at least!

I added a narrow border around the outside - a leftover scrap of the pink I used as the backing and binding of Scrappy Hearts and Nine-Patches.

I alco pieced a scrappy backing for it, using the paper-pieced hearts I was playing with in February.

Today I'll be putting in some slow-stitching time as I get started on hand quilting this.

Enjoy your Sunday!  Sharing at Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap and Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.

Rainbow Jungle

I've had fun playing with my teal/turquoise/aqua scraps this week to add to the Rainbow Jungle!

How about some jungle cats?

And some jungle elephants!

Here are all eight of my March blocks -

The Rainbow Jungle so far -

Meanwhile, I finished up enough HSTs for the green zigzag.

I'll start adding the turquoise HSTs this week.

Loving my design wall this week!
