Today seems like a good day to stitch with green, so I'll be adding leaves to the tree on my <a href="https://pinkernpunkinquilting.blogspot.com/2024/03/bunnies-daffodils-and-shamrocks-and.html">March heart design from PinkernPunkin</a>.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaN_iLHKLvvXm8WtLDzLvnkXb9iXQa-w-5t5EQe6S5tY7m2aqfqrWYk5IYSp2WG9RQ9ROqhBNWyRqjeU5SNWG7TCQrJ2F-nmXhawFifzr4gUQxIDOIfv98MTAguqxNxrygSyq0J-Jnh0ytRpd0XyFWzBuNR9a-QqeYW1O-ilDq_VWDJwaGciS_By1NYjT7/s3598/IMG_0082~2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3598" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaN_iLHKLvvXm8WtLDzLvnkXb9iXQa-w-5t5EQe6S5tY7m2aqfqrWYk5IYSp2WG9RQ9ROqhBNWyRqjeU5SNWG7TCQrJ2F-nmXhawFifzr4gUQxIDOIfv98MTAguqxNxrygSyq0J-Jnh0ytRpd0XyFWzBuNR9a-QqeYW1O-ilDq_VWDJwaGciS_By1NYjT7/w336-h400/IMG_0082~2.jpg" width="336" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I've also been working on another PinkernPunkin design called "<a href="https://pinkernpunkinquilting.blogspot.com/2022/02/tablescraps-and-shamrocks.html">Shamrock Blessings</a>." I changed up the shape a little bit because of the size of my piece of fabric. It will be more square, and may not have the same border. Since I will be turning 70 this year, it feels like the right year to take on a project like this. And this week we're getting started! Check out all the details at the link above if you're curious about it, too.</p><p>I am the oldest of four - three girls and a boy - and was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1954, when my dad was in the Navy. When I was about two, my parents moved to Rochester, New York, where we lived until I graduated from high school. My parents both grew up in Iowa, where their parents were also born and lived their whole lives.</p><p>This photo is of my mom and me when I was two years old. The beautiful colors, the scent of the blooms, cutting some to bring in the house. It won't be until early April that we get these beautiful blooms, but it is worth the wait!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibvAvi1xpVQrc9_nmdaAI8fnugn_UWGTH7rM4wOqCc5oCU1sbmlQ3AE3t1aRqMmGE8rq9vkH2zOrxS2Xnw870i0rQFWN8UwMtQ-Bz22eVfxUKQc99Qf6od6RZSBuR4IHO8WcTwClDsv4sjMbpOAG0ONydN9i0xrI_0rwDNoIUoGqHO9ePu6vcMSTqw_CMC/s4096/IMG_20220429_075653372_HDR.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3072" data-original-width="4096" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibvAvi1xpVQrc9_nmdaAI8fnugn_UWGTH7rM4wOqCc5oCU1sbmlQ3AE3t1aRqMmGE8rq9vkH2zOrxS2Xnw870i0rQFWN8UwMtQ-Bz22eVfxUKQc99Qf6od6RZSBuR4IHO8WcTwClDsv4sjMbpOAG0ONydN9i0xrI_0rwDNoIUoGqHO9ePu6vcMSTqw_CMC/w400-h300/IMG_20220429_075653372_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Have a great day!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;">Thanks for visiting on I Like Thursday hosted by LeeAnna at </span><a href="https://lapaylor.blogspot.com/" style="text-align: left;">Not Afraid of Color</a><span>.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p>LIttle Penguin Quiltshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05963436433585505550noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7488073303206028166.post-64399004045217916082024-03-05T21:03:00.001-07:002024-03-06T06:16:09.764-07:00Midweek Update<p>I've continued to work on my Stay at Home Round Robin project, and it's getting close to a finished quilt top! When I left off in <a href="https://littlepenguinquilts.blogspot.com/2024/03/finishing-up-february.htmlhttps://littlepenguinquilts.blogspot.com/2024/03/finishing-up-february.html">my Saturday post</a>, I was modifying the bottom section that I had made for Border #6, which was to include words or numbers. </p><p>I added two sawtooth stars on either side of the embroidered words instead of the big blocks of red that I had started with. Of course, the first time around, I made this section too big! A little more measuring and a little trimming took care of that problem so that the bottom could be attached to the rest of the quilt.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqKiiROnQiwddcFdGYu42KYom7jSY55ylKP7atFDIfhudAiBJafskrSAtKqcDttVXFk5PCry3owpPDP2Zd3UjdQAW2NXMHenejz7S34235Eu2h3COgCRSCqElMug9mlb_N7tmYsep-n4p4wtboYK_-QePbNtPH4CjQIdJw_9wLe5ANQhlU79iodc7mLkKL/s4032/IMG_0055.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqKiiROnQiwddcFdGYu42KYom7jSY55ylKP7atFDIfhudAiBJafskrSAtKqcDttVXFk5PCry3owpPDP2Zd3UjdQAW2NXMHenejz7S34235Eu2h3COgCRSCqElMug9mlb_N7tmYsep-n4p4wtboYK_-QePbNtPH4CjQIdJw_9wLe5ANQhlU79iodc7mLkKL/w400-h300/IMG_0055.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Then I decided to finish everything off with a final border, so I went shopping, hoping to find just the right thing. I started with <a href="https://pinkernpunkinquilting.blogspot.com/2024/02/tulip-mini-sampler-spring-freebie.html">Melisa's Tulip Mini Sampler</a>, and used DMC 4237 - Laguna Blue - for the letters. That's one of my favorite variegated blues. Then I decided to change to DMC 3325 - Medium Baby Blue - for the tulips. This was a fun little design to stitch!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzbBpRLxsBsDBp3ad6Gl_9xIxA6yDGWpKUUd0-nd3OzATnjO2biqbDgHwhVa_BGmJ83-KyLyHhENx8ArcqHGEM2wKRW4TvacjdW3Mt5ISXISUx57LJOpvpCH_cBggaQU9idzE5ZdTewS6DvYK1F_hohdTL-kf7aNCi0lRFaaRtnvHNRU1xGZ9xGOQCu6wF/s2470/IMG_0053.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1769" data-original-width="2470" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzbBpRLxsBsDBp3ad6Gl_9xIxA6yDGWpKUUd0-nd3OzATnjO2biqbDgHwhVa_BGmJ83-KyLyHhENx8ArcqHGEM2wKRW4TvacjdW3Mt5ISXISUx57LJOpvpCH_cBggaQU9idzE5ZdTewS6DvYK1F_hohdTL-kf7aNCi0lRFaaRtnvHNRU1xGZ9xGOQCu6wF/w400-h286/IMG_0053.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now that the calendar page has turned over to March, it's time to stitch the next monthly design on the Kathy Schmitz Woven Wreaths project. My first job was to sew together blocks made for the previous prompts from weeks 3, 4, and 5 into one border, and at that point it looked like this:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJxJlD7K78mtdUuMI_woNiQWVV6XUP6CNXiVbLbHAPcBLU29aHiYLt8XomUFRhTRXUxzPLpHZ5yHdVIjXSGgUJYLeQVipfrlIP9jRs35SYxFg_PGcXJopUXlr-hRGxrViNtvHaNWiAAmqDbnz7oyZKd1R9tivszpUwrs0O7EFt6ucrbrwsvNGQMhwqCwj-/s3223/IMG_0043.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2922" data-original-width="3223" height="363" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJxJlD7K78mtdUuMI_woNiQWVV6XUP6CNXiVbLbHAPcBLU29aHiYLt8XomUFRhTRXUxzPLpHZ5yHdVIjXSGgUJYLeQVipfrlIP9jRs35SYxFg_PGcXJopUXlr-hRGxrViNtvHaNWiAAmqDbnz7oyZKd1R9tivszpUwrs0O7EFt6ucrbrwsvNGQMhwqCwj-/w400-h363/IMG_0043.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Border 1: Signature blocks, Border 2: two colors (yellow and white), then a narrow red border to contain all that yellow (!), Border 3: triangles, Border 4: square-in-a-square blocks, Border 5: anything that involves the number 4 (I made four patch blocks). </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And here we are!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://kathleenmcmusing.com/2024/02/sahrr-2024-round-6/">Kathleen McMusing</a> had the prompt for Border #6 and she called for using letters or numbers. Since my SAHRR began with an embroidered block that says "When life gives you lemons..." I decided that another embroidered section would be appropriate! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlvUqXMNEsI7huE_Skp8LheUTWHNigsYxrQ4RZEQrMyPO65JNwtceUlG-m_MWR-Hew0bKQzhCc5CxojV9Xv1YvkTi4RvHXNbpjhDeX9fW3BrCW2v12yHi4mhQFwdRtcCSAosUKoHwos3ln2vLwz8-TYm6F71s2o0Qj4t6d9O4Nqk8pocb3DNNNap72CP9M/s4032/IMG_0044.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlvUqXMNEsI7huE_Skp8LheUTWHNigsYxrQ4RZEQrMyPO65JNwtceUlG-m_MWR-Hew0bKQzhCc5CxojV9Xv1YvkTi4RvHXNbpjhDeX9fW3BrCW2v12yHi4mhQFwdRtcCSAosUKoHwos3ln2vLwz8-TYm6F71s2o0Qj4t6d9O4Nqk8pocb3DNNNap72CP9M/w400-h300/IMG_0044.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Next I needed to decide how I was going to use that piece in the final border. My first idea was to piece it into a wide red section, and finish the whole project with a red border the rest of the way around. So far, I've just made the bottom section and sewn a red border to the top.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi37tmuqGBygHkZ0KhcDoaT6o1zZ53jZTrcrcXrDb9wGMXZdr6O1P7zVp1ZS4OEMZzEOgYKyxriD9hyphenhyphenlkknXyLpS71E4GVcX0xTcObbGvKowJxhufmIPEBQkJsyYtaFpDSXfW5aCOi4nFAyeLo00XTf-Cpur7TdKo2CG1-KMYENg2J71-dyQjrsFxGBkXHR/s3282/IMG_0045.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3282" height="369" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi37tmuqGBygHkZ0KhcDoaT6o1zZ53jZTrcrcXrDb9wGMXZdr6O1P7zVp1ZS4OEMZzEOgYKyxriD9hyphenhyphenlkknXyLpS71E4GVcX0xTcObbGvKowJxhufmIPEBQkJsyYtaFpDSXfW5aCOi4nFAyeLo00XTf-Cpur7TdKo2CG1-KMYENg2J71-dyQjrsFxGBkXHR/w400-h369/IMG_0045.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">But then those two big blocks of red on either side of the embroidered words started to bother me! Hope you're having a good week! Today should be a good day here because a little later this morning, I get to spring my mom from rehab and take her home to her apartment. I think she's looking forward to that, and I really am!</p><p>I found a little hint of Spring in my garden the other day. I've made quite a few of these over the years - they're adapted from an older Missouri Star Quilt Co video. I've changed the size and added some features that I thought were useful, too. </p><p>I wanted to use some of this Charley Harper penguin print as a focus fabric for it. I can't even remember where I got it, but it's been in my stash for awhile and never quite fit into any other projects. I'm pretty sure I bought a 1/4 yard of it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDM657qM7_G7bvB7lP3xy0Y5CZwaOlGZ2BDeld9ANqMu_nGQjyS37XZmnJazd5wlFU9el3cnLtBSGPYOOfq6JMxn84H-ihLZHcEE0fTVefzusk8lSzPU1PE_mHAnAiDNpsh4NQ_hsC5keXXEVpHF8-Sa6sx24ZapDPCEJyyGf-38mGi9dj06OM4-DiWEqy/s4032/IMG_0036~2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2422" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDM657qM7_G7bvB7lP3xy0Y5CZwaOlGZ2BDeld9ANqMu_nGQjyS37XZmnJazd5wlFU9el3cnLtBSGPYOOfq6JMxn84H-ihLZHcEE0fTVefzusk8lSzPU1PE_mHAnAiDNpsh4NQ_hsC5keXXEVpHF8-Sa6sx24ZapDPCEJyyGf-38mGi9dj06OM4-DiWEqy/w400-h240/IMG_0036~2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I started by pulling some coordinating scraps from my stash and making this square-in-a-square type block that involved a new technique a local quilty friend shared.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwfUjmSr3Z79hmryLLPoFkqUc5QFy24Med9bhfPPqjxrlE3NFl93Hjkf7I3NZVeo-oTENdhyphenhyphenhe9Rth1R_YKMTof1j5ti0Hlr9rKSQ2Pd3Ubk4axRjzU6zIGHWq5UzSNftotdf9yO0TKaR21fvzZl3hG8D8PMH7488ZhR9XNEH91aviiIyXmgG8hQkmkiIR/s4096/IMG_20240209_155037918.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3072" data-original-width="4096" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwfUjmSr3Z79hmryLLPoFkqUc5QFy24Med9bhfPPqjxrlE3NFl93Hjkf7I3NZVeo-oTENdhyphenhyphenhe9Rth1R_YKMTof1j5ti0Hlr9rKSQ2Pd3Ubk4axRjzU6zIGHWq5UzSNftotdf9yO0TKaR21fvzZl3hG8D8PMH7488ZhR9XNEH91aviiIyXmgG8hQkmkiIR/w400-h300/IMG_20240209_155037918.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">To make this block, I started with a 4.25 inch center, and matched it with a square of the gray the same size. Place the two squares right sides together, sew all the way around with a 1/4 inch seam, and then mark an X from corner to corner and cut it open with scissors to get the first square corners. Press open and you get the first square-in-a-square. You can just keep doing this until you reach the size you want - I did this process three times to get about a 9.5 inch block.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I sewed this block with some more of the penguins, dots, and gray into a big panel that measured 16 X 26. She is spending some time in a rehab facility to build her strength and independence back up. I hope it won't be for too long, though - she is anxious to go home! Thanks, everyone, for all your good wishes for Mom!</p><p>We treated ourselves to a box of Thin Mints this week! Yum! I can't go a year without a box or two.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE8RKXO48MG9WAquAGQhRIBx6qfX3shQZyaCYh0S5hb3s216-xHaaMa-1eU6OD8ujk1fbscRW_VFiCPJevmL7njPliXuZY0ZPGm72FaaBIn4xq-vU6sL0MnGL6CGuMFlcvkd64Wi-30v4TP1yxr9fUzJo3-TnJYJt1quRWP7yfvGA4Kklo50aUsVNE921H/s4032/IMG_0015.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE8RKXO48MG9WAquAGQhRIBx6qfX3shQZyaCYh0S5hb3s216-xHaaMa-1eU6OD8ujk1fbscRW_VFiCPJevmL7njPliXuZY0ZPGm72FaaBIn4xq-vU6sL0MnGL6CGuMFlcvkd64Wi-30v4TP1yxr9fUzJo3-TnJYJt1quRWP7yfvGA4Kklo50aUsVNE921H/w300-h400/IMG_0015.HEIC" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I finished up the February heart for <a href="https://pinkernpunkinquilting.blogspot.com/2024/02/a-year-of-hearts-doodle-block-2-country.html">Melisa's Year of Hearts</a> project the other night. I enjoyed the storyline - Castle is a writer who needs inspiration for his books, so he starts shadowing Beckett, the police detective. This week's border prompt is from <a href="https://quiltinggail.com/2024/02/19/sahrr-round-5-3/">Gail at Quilting Gail</a> and she called for anything that has an element of 4 in it. I opted to go simple and traditional and made four patch blocks.</p><p>In fact, I made three groups of <u>four</u> 4 patches! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkvk0ns1UVtsBbpkgECN8Uosi6iT75AvloklKc5vXqk9FOG-__ZFlOADglTw2PM4Fq2i0nar7Jd-oztfq5z-hVfNzCNfT8ahC3CA2i36MM7HuxhZFA4OoNUTXq3BbTH_uHNMUWQECSB38SZQ14rUCTU8WTSvtLe2mdd55Aq7mED8seNxPHukdrnzBP6syY/s3302/IMG_0019~2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2627" data-original-width="3302" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkvk0ns1UVtsBbpkgECN8Uosi6iT75AvloklKc5vXqk9FOG-__ZFlOADglTw2PM4Fq2i0nar7Jd-oztfq5z-hVfNzCNfT8ahC3CA2i36MM7HuxhZFA4OoNUTXq3BbTH_uHNMUWQECSB38SZQ14rUCTU8WTSvtLe2mdd55Aq7mED8seNxPHukdrnzBP6syY/w400-h319/IMG_0019~2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">In the quilt, they became <u>four</u> groups of three!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6gU-4WKAl0MMKtB7Nl15jo3t_7unrDsYt9pa3b6IBP7WpHCEGEEXsi5qhsi20DfpiDDz_ZT5Oad6-WkpZuloDZJvHaZpuIEKxD6WDxrFnLTc38922SxthtFDS-MfofpQmnOMcQzhmqOm-kwU0UOwbPLESQCqNim2zas1K26Jdr7BzUSop6OS6-mkxag4M/s4032/IMG_0020~2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="375" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6gU-4WKAl0MMKtB7Nl15jo3t_7unrDsYt9pa3b6IBP7WpHCEGEEXsi5qhsi20DfpiDDz_ZT5Oad6-WkpZuloDZJvHaZpuIEKxD6WDxrFnLTc38922SxthtFDS-MfofpQmnOMcQzhmqOm-kwU0UOwbPLESQCqNim2zas1K26Jdr7BzUSop6OS6-mkxag4M/w500-h375/IMG_0020~2.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The center of the quilt up to the narrow red border measures 18.5 inches,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">so there is room to add two more 2.5 inch blocks on each side. I'll wait to see what Border #6 calls for to decide what I'm going to add.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">[I've been bothered by the look of that center section - it has looked wider at the top and the bottom - like it was stretched out of shape. Measuring showed that the top and bottom borders were 1/4 inch longer than the center - I think I sewed them on wrong! No wonder those borders were wavy... So out came Jack the Ripper, and I took off those two borders, trimmed them by 1/4 inch and sewed them back on corectly. Now that center is a true 18.5 inches square!]</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Sharing at QuiltingGail for the <a href="https://quiltinggail.com/2024/02/19/sahrr-round-5-3/">SAHRR 2024 week 5 link-up</a> and at</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Quiltfabrication for Midweek Makers.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>LIttle Penguin Quiltshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05963436433585505550noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7488073303206028166.post-73163545342886504682024-02-17T21:06:00.000-07:002024-02-17T21:06:08.392-07:00Some Slow Stitching for a Sunday<p>After I finished the <a href="https://littlepenguinquilts.blogspot.com/2024/02/a-happy-scrappy-finish.html">Rainbow Bowties</a> quilt earlier this week, I started thinking about what new block I could work on next for a new hand-piecing project.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5oTejaBehpHrSKKunaIyk5H4X1jR-iCs-uEEEZ2S_PQH5_UGK2FUT1hFPXT_vDyvIUqkTKTkwLzsKgzr4AtorCj3PA9ASH4JDpUdcSRHMl8elqEdr7vIhhFxp2aI2jjubxgZh7egBweoX1OP_BVz3X66GIJz1A5xAMfTPpFI8uDncYH-UfO6hpR70wrtg/s4032/IMG_0005~2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5oTejaBehpHrSKKunaIyk5H4X1jR-iCs-uEEEZ2S_PQH5_UGK2FUT1hFPXT_vDyvIUqkTKTkwLzsKgzr4AtorCj3PA9ASH4JDpUdcSRHMl8elqEdr7vIhhFxp2aI2jjubxgZh7egBweoX1OP_BVz3X66GIJz1A5xAMfTPpFI8uDncYH-UfO6hpR70wrtg/w400-h300/IMG_0005~2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Then I remembered that one of the blocks on my list that I want to make is a Hollow Nine Patch, and that would be an easy one to hand-piece. I think this might be one of my favorite quilts ever, but I probably say that with every finish! The bowties for this quilt were my handpiecing project for 2023. Here's a photo from July - halfway there, maybe?</p><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEEPXqsgUh3HAmM9rksLbecgJ4Lpby3h95QfsmiUSvVkFvXpibRuv8Fk9UAThwBkn4YdvmgWAk-cLT2BhtOR1YGJ6k9j8KWny6gVLpJNHB_KVR7QxfKUyeQJXeirvwOGnef4ThJYtwkff7xeYjDdmXyeD2IxvfPyPVIZehRvVP_qpTgg2YmZKusw5KsVEG/s4096/IMG_20230707_152358889.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3072" data-original-width="4096" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEEPXqsgUh3HAmM9rksLbecgJ4Lpby3h95QfsmiUSvVkFvXpibRuv8Fk9UAThwBkn4YdvmgWAk-cLT2BhtOR1YGJ6k9j8KWny6gVLpJNHB_KVR7QxfKUyeQJXeirvwOGnef4ThJYtwkff7xeYjDdmXyeD2IxvfPyPVIZehRvVP_qpTgg2YmZKusw5KsVEG/w400-h300/IMG_20230707_152358889.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I ended up with 80 blocks total, and kept hand-piecing them together into </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">larger and larger groups until the whole center was together.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">By then, I was ready to get this thing finished, so I machine sewed the borders on! There are hearts all over town, a Miss Loveland Valentine, and we have our very own Valentine greeting cards to send out each year, too. Each year there's a contest for whose design will be on the front, and whose greeting will go inside.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_j60XV1s_lxxEVskH67Sdea6XzjyCQZ9tGKnK1juQSkIkNCumRBCsJhtAFRuaowia0bcU4X1xcKWxzmrQHrTrqWWWeuVjeLIhGwlLHVrsLcofuiDtlAiN9dwF_1T6GozeQTL7BqshC5AsxagsYZOsxELmQph0-sFdpL3AYfwOBUTeKl0gXfw34yp0cL0B/s936/Screenshot_20240129_184938_Chrome.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="746" data-original-width="936" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_j60XV1s_lxxEVskH67Sdea6XzjyCQZ9tGKnK1juQSkIkNCumRBCsJhtAFRuaowia0bcU4X1xcKWxzmrQHrTrqWWWeuVjeLIhGwlLHVrsLcofuiDtlAiN9dwF_1T6GozeQTL7BqshC5AsxagsYZOsxELmQph0-sFdpL3AYfwOBUTeKl0gXfw34yp0cL0B/w400-h319/Screenshot_20240129_184938_Chrome.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When I saw Melisa's little stamp design - <a href="https://pinkernpunkinquilting.blogspot.com/2022/02/miss-cheap-skate-strikes-again-love.html">Love Note</a> - I knew it was one I had to stitch! This week's host, Emily at the Darling Dogwood, posted on Monday that our next border should be made with triangles. That always gets me thinking, and excited to get going on my plan.</p><p>I first did a little shopping at my LQS and brought home a few more reds, yellows, and background white prints. Here you can see where I left off last week, too.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieajvhfSYbHZVnhQDxT_lwb-qYX8hR2GAZ7V7vWfnUq2IKRQrvC2VomP-LPVQKlnof4ucghznDbpoSsJsK7jVbBVL3KgkV6TqzeT1zUQLNuaYaKerCpKBIrzQ9YFeZKm5fRV86qpOb2LgyDDqJ7aFnViZigOWMdqJgwerkco1HLXzhy4vuKsB-g-TD0mfl/s4096/IMG_20240205_104908810.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3072" data-original-width="4096" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieajvhfSYbHZVnhQDxT_lwb-qYX8hR2GAZ7V7vWfnUq2IKRQrvC2VomP-LPVQKlnof4ucghznDbpoSsJsK7jVbBVL3KgkV6TqzeT1zUQLNuaYaKerCpKBIrzQ9YFeZKm5fRV86qpOb2LgyDDqJ7aFnViZigOWMdqJgwerkco1HLXzhy4vuKsB-g-TD0mfl/w400-h300/IMG_20240205_104908810.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The center block I started with has a glass of lemonade that I embroidered with silver metallic floss. I don't think I even ever shared these on the blog when I was working on them, just stitched them up and never took any in-progress photos!</p><p>The first one is this little heart embroidery. I can't even remember where I got the design from - does anyone recognize it? Lots of French Knots in those flower centers!
