May And Sew On block - Finished!

I didn't think I would make it this month.  The end of the school year is so busy!  But school is out and I finally had a chance to sew!  Here is the result:

Now it's time for the June block, and I'm ready!

Honey Honey

Recently, I got some lovely mail from the Fat Quarter Shop!  A dessert roll of Honey Honey by Kate Spain for Moda.

Looking through it, I can't decide which fabric is my favorite.  This one?

Or maybe this one?

Each piece is in the collection is fun to look at, and mull over what I might do with them.  I think I have just as much fun figuring out the project, as I do actually making it.  Until then, I'm just going to enjoy looking at it.

Randomness for a Thursday

We are heading for the end of the school year here in Colorado, and to keep our kids engaged and having fun we have decided to have a Hobby Fair.  Of course, I had to show the kids some thing about my own hobby to help them see what was expected.  Well, there is nothing like a little admiration from your students to make you feel like the best quilter in the world.
           "You made that?"
           "Wow!  It's so cute!"

I love their enthusiasm!   It makes up for the not so wonderful comments we often get when activities  are less than exciting for them!

The end of the school year is a difficult time to get any sewing in.  I have many WIPs, but have made little progress.  I was on a good roll with my Scrappy Trip blocks, but cut some strips to make a block about a week ago and haven't been back to my sewing machine since.  I keep trying for just 15 minutes a day, but I can't even make that.  I am so looking forward to summer vacation!

My scrappy trip quilt is starting to take shape, however, and I really want to keep going.  Here's how it looks so far.

That being said, I think I'll go sew!

Springtime in the Rockies!

Here is the view outside our house this morning...  We ended up having a snow day, so no school!
What to do on a snow day?  Find a little sewing project!  I made a lined drawstring bag from this tutorial by Ashley at The Creative Place.  I love how it turned out!  The only change I made was to use some white cord in place of the fabric drawstrings, and I pulled one long piece all the way through to be tied on one side.  That way it wasn't quite so bulky.
I made the bag to hold this fun fabric bundle, which is a gift for a special friend at work who is also a quilter.  I hope she likes it!

My trusty scissors!

Today, I am linking up with Gemini Stitches for the Let's Get Acquainted Monday Link-up!

I finished the April block for the And Sew On BoM.  It's called Not For Paper, which is so appropriate because when my mom gave me my Gingher scissors, that's exactly what she said to me! And I never have cut anything but fabric with them!

Here are all the blocks so far.  I'm looking forward to the next block already!

Really? Random!

Really, I was thinking it was going to be Spring after we returned from our Spring Break trip.  But here is what we returned to:

I'm not sure what has happened to my daffodils and tulips because I can't see them under the foot of snow...  There have been lots of inside recesses, cancelled field trips, and after school activities, even a snow day today! (can't complain about that)

On a happier note, the sun has finally come back today, and I had a chance to try photographing a favorite quilt out in the snow in my backyard.  That was fun to try.
This isn't one I made, but was given to us by some special quilting friends during my husband's chemo treatments 5 years ago.  And that in itself is a celebration, because he has passed the 5 year mark this month!

Happy Thursday, everyone!  I'm linking up with Cindy at Live a Colorful Life.

Starry Stash

I love fabrics with stars on them!  I'm not sure why, but my quilts often have at least one piece of fabric that has stars.  So, I decided to look through my stash to see what star fabrics I could come up with.  Now, my stash is relatively small compared to some, I know.  But I still found a pretty fun selection to look at.  For me, the best part is remembering which quilt I used that fabric in: my husband's quilt of valor, or my son's college quilt, or the one I made for my niece's first baby.

I found a few that I don't remember using in any projects, yet...  That must mean I need to start something new!
