Little Penguin Quilts Through the Year

Little Penguin Quilts Through the Year

September is on its way!

If it's that time of year when the calendar still says summer, but it's feeling a bit like fall, it must be almost September!  At least that's how it feels at our house.  So I finished the September heart mini quilt to display on the little chest by the front door.

The theme is apples!

September also means back-to-school for this retired teacher, so I put out the Little Schoolhouse Mini sampler, and a favorite glass apple that a student once gave me.

I did get the fall embroidery project traced and found some variegated floss that I like for it.  Just a few stitches were taken to get it started last night.

This is Cosmo Seasons variegated floss, which I haven't used before.
It doesn't have a name, but it's a blend of brown, gold,
and kind of a pumpkin orange - seems just right for this project.

Since Joann's went out of business, I've been struggling a bit about where to buy new thread and embroidery floss.  I have ordered from Red Rock Threads and they do carry lots of floss brands, including Cosmos floss.   But I found this at my LQS - it turns out they have a whole wall of it!  Now I know where to go when I need something new.

Apple harvest has started here for some of the early varieties. Apples are a good theme for September. One of my favourite desserts is Apple crisp. You have chosen the perfect variegated thread for your fall embroidery project. Enjoy your slow stitching this week. Gail at the cozy quilter

Lovely Apple embroidery stand-hanging you've finished!! And the new piece looks like it will be fun to work on!!
It certainly "feels" like September here--it's been coolish all week long...low 50's in the am's and only up to low 70's daily...we also still go by the start of the schoolyear here too--- DH having been a public school music teacher and all.
hugs for a Happy Labor Day, Julierose

September heart came out great(as usual) and looks so good with your school house mini. I too am missing my Joann's. Hobby Lobby must have emb. floss, I need some white. Yes it really does have the feeling of fall in the air, my plants all seem to have sensed it too as they are winding down which seems a month to early!

Another lovely stitchery finish to display, Diann. Love the glass apple sitting atop the hexies pretty. Lovely shades in the variegated floss. I imagine it won't be too long till your fall embroidery project will be finished and out on display. 'Tis such a sweet design.

I love the apples theme this time of year! Your display looks so cute. We have early fall this year - very unusual - not exactly fall weather (highs in the low 80s) but nothing like our usual end of August temps.

Your heart mini jquilt is so pretty – love how you colored in the apples! You have certainly created a touching back-to-school display. It is a warm welcome to your home. Do I spy a QAYG hexagon project? It’s very pretty!

Is there a Michael's near you. They are a good source for floss. I like your September display. I am more than ready for Fall decor once September begins. I usually wait until the actual first day of Fall, but not this year. Your latest project is sweet.

yes September is a good month - fall will be in the air, maybe some cooler nights, birthdays to celebrate (or forget?) fall spices in the kitchen and pumpkins

Your Fall embroidery looks like a winner. Do you have Hobby Lobby in your area? I find that they carry a lot of the DMC floss and it's cheaper than Michael's. At least in my area that's true.

Cute, cute display! Is your Schoolhouse Sampler a design from Melisa? I was researching the Cosmos Seasons thread and it looks like it comes in varying lengths of color changes. That’s good to know when cross stitching. Your new fall pumpkin stitch is going to be a cute one.
