with Hello Summer, that is! Just three more rows for the watermelon and this will be done.
I did rip a little something out and make a change to the design. In the pattern, the little bees at the very top had antennae made of cross-stitches, and I had stitched mine in pink so they would stand out. See below from last week's photo.
But that just didn't look right to me. So if you look back at the top photo,
you can see that I took those pink stitches out and just made smaller straight stitches
that look more like antennae to me.
A nice change in our weather has it feeling like there's a hint of fall in the air, and that has made me feel like starting some new with a fall theme! This is from Gail Pan's book, Patchwork Loves Embroidery Too. I've stitched this before, but gave it away, so now I want to do it again to keep.
The directions say to stitch this in a variegated red-orange pearl cotton, which I don't have, so will have to go looking for some this week. Meanwhile I can get this all prepped and ready to start!

Yes, I think you did the right thing with the antennae, they look better to me too. Your fall stitchery is going to be perfect for cooler days.
The bees 🐝 look much more bee-like with the black antennae. Good call. That looks like a good fall project. I have picked out a fall cross stitch to work on. Gail at the cozy quilter
Hello Summer is so pretty, good choice on the bees antannae. I'm not sure mine will be finished before summer ends - lol. That is a pretty embroidery pattern by Gail.
The antennae look good that way. I don't remember you stitching the Gail Pan one before, what cloth do you like to stitch those on.
Beautiful cross stich!! Love the bees...;)) Looks like a fun square
coming up...hugs, Julierose
Good call, I like the black straight stitches better. We can feel a bit of fall in the air here too. It is welcome respite from the heat wave but still a little sad to me.
Your change to the bees did change their look. I thought those stitchers were wings? Who knew? I like your choice of variegated threads. They give it good dimension. Fun Fall stitch. I think I will work on one too. If I ever get the Biscornu completed
Great idea for the bees! Congrats on the finish! Perfect project to end the summer with! Lovely design from Gail Pan... you know it's a good one when you want to stitch it twice!
The antennae look more realistic with straight stitches. I like the design from Fail Pan. It will look great with the orange thread!
Better antennae -- I like it better too. Sometimes when I want variegation in my thread and I'm using 2 strands, I'll grab 2 different colors of my DMC, thread them both in my needle, and stitch away. I get a nice variegation that way. If you're unsuccessful looking for some at the store, you might want to consider this. Happy stitching and we are enjoying Fall-ish weather here too.
Hello Summer is darling, Diann. You will have it whipped out in no time. And love the Gail Pan design. I look forward to seeing it in progress . Enjoy your day. Hugs
Hello Summer turned out beautifully. The bees do look better with the change you made. Enjoy the cool down. I'm not ready for it to be fall in terms of how far that means we are into the year, but I am ready for a cool down.
I like the change you made to Hello Summer. It looks great. Love the new one as well. Enjoy your Sunday.
That is a sweet little summer project. I think you did right taking those pink stitches out. The definitely look like bees now.
