I Like Thursday #444

Happy Thursday!  I'm liking this pot of marigolds that is starting to bloom right now.  I didn't even plant these this year - they just re-seeded themselves from last year!  In the background you can see the corner of my raised bed garden.  It's overgrown right now with green beans, cucumbers, and pumpkins.  We have been eating cucumbers and green beans - yum!  And a couple pumpkins are growing, too.

A squirrel jumped into my sewing room this week!  Looking for something to do with the leftover jelly roll strips from Glowing Hearts and inspired by Vicki's post, here, I decided to make a braided tablerunner.  Easy and fun!

Growing!
I found a tutorial on Pinterest that helped me get started.  I'm cutting the strips at 10.5 inches, and 26 of them should give me a runner that is 12 x 32.  Just a few more strips!

I finished a book from a favorite series yesterday.  It's always enjoyable to get back into the world of some favorite characters.

LeeAnna's question of the week is about shopping at garage sales and thrift shops.  I don't do a lot of that, but I do admire the finds that some bloggers share from their thrifting.  We have recently been using big dishes that we find at the local Goodwill store for our bird bath, though.  It was Mike's idea to try this and it works great!  Plus, you can find fun and colorful dishes for not very much $$!

Happy Thursday, Diann. Your marigold plant is magnificent. I love it when they reseed themselves. Great idea on using large plates for birdbaths. You found a very pretty one. I am going to keep my eye out for one for my garden. I have been tempted to start a braid runner too. Thank you for showing it in progress. Yours is looking fabulous! Enjoy your day. Hugs.

Lots of gardeners forget the simple flowers. Your marigolds look great and the fact that they were seeded from last year's flowers make them all the more special. Zinnias are wonderful for that too as are impatiens. Your table runner is coming along nicely. Have you been thinkink about how you'll go about quilting it yet? It'll be a nice size too.

Your braided table runner is a great project for using up the leftover strips. I have marigolds in my pots on the patio. They are yellow and are in a pot with magenta mini petunias and blue ageratum. I will send you a picture. Your marigolds will soon be putting on a show! Gail at the cozy quilter

Wow, that marigold is impressive! Love the birdbath plate, how often do you change the water in it? Fun braided runner, what a great way to use up some scraps.

That pot of marigolds is so full and pretty. Your fresh produce sounds good. Did you plant a smallish variety of pumpkins? Love your French braid, that is going to be nice! I like Mike's idea, and that is a pretty plate. I bought a dark blue ceramic pot saucer years ago and set it on top of a plant holder and called it a bird bath, but I want to add more, so I'm going to look for a plate. I like Goodwill and would browse for hours. Hubs can barely tolerate going into the store - lol!

Your table runner is looking good. What a great idea to use up the left over strips. I don't thrift shop very much. Grad Girl has done some, as thrifty finds are cheaper than buying new.

How fortunate your marigolds reseeding and the pot is looking good. You'll have some pretty blooms soon. I love the fabrics in your braided table runner, 12 x 32 is a nice size. I finished reading my book club book The Amalfi Curse. Loved it! The bird bath plate is a great idea.
