Moving Along

I stuck to my plan this week, and was able to get the Split 9s quilt ready for quilting.  That always takes me a couple days - cutting batting and backing to size, pressing, dethreading, spray basting.  It's such a good feeling to get all those chores done!

I've been quilting a little bit each day, using my favorite serpentine stitch in a grid along the seam lines.   I enjoy coming across all the scrappy squares I used as I quilt - owls, paper airplanes, hot air balloons, flowers, shamrocks, skiers, "Up, up and away!"

And here's a real favorite!

UFOs are a badge of honor!

Sometimes I need a break from the quilting, though, so I was thinking about what else I could work on, and remembered Blueberry Taffy.  I made these blocks back in January, using crumb blocks I had made in 2022.  I don't think I've pulled them out since then, so it's time!

There are eight more crumb blocks to turn into Taffy blocks, and that's something I can work on here and there when I need a break from quilting on the Split 9s.

How big is your split 9’s quilt? It is looking great! I also love the serpentine stitch in my machine. The taffy blocks are looking good—a neat way to use your crumb blocks. Gail at the Cozy Quilter

Your Split 9s quilt is SO pretty! I really love that serpentine stitch. I had forgotten about your gorgeous Blueberry Taffy blocks. The blues seem quite appropriate for the cold weather, right? :)

I love your colorful Split Nines every time I see them! And seeing your candy blocks reminds me that that is yet another RSC finish I need to get cracking on! I’m glad there’s no one who is going to make me sit out RSC24 because all my past projects aren’t completed!! LOL. Curious as to how many Christmas cards (great photo on it, BTW) you sent out this year.

I really like the way you set the Split 9's. And hooray for the serpentine stitch. I use it often. The taffy blocks are such fun -- and no calories!

Lovely projects Dianne. The split nine block is so much fun - How satisfying to be working on finishes! I am quilting a project too and it does get a bit boring at times. I usually have to break it up and do other things in between too.

What a nifty way to use your blue crumb blocks. I like making crumb blocks and using them different ways...using them to fashion taffy is great!

Your Split 9-Patch quilt is so cheerful. I'm sure it is a fun one to quilt. I have to do some crumb blocks for a taffy quilt, as the little bits of fabric are overflowing everywhere and the taffy quilt is such a charmer. Enjoy! ;^)

That Split 9 with the offset center is so cheerful! Your serpentine quilting is such a great idea. I think I'll have to give that a try. I've never seen a block like the Taffy block. It's a great way to use those crumb blocks!
