I Like Thursday #312

Good morning, and happy Thursday!   I'm joining in with LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color for I Like Thursday as I always do.

This was our view out the front window yesterday.  We got about 4 inches of snow overnight.  This was the prettiest part of the day, when the sky cleared and the sun came out.

The snowy day put me in the mood to start getting out the Christmas decorations, and I always start with my holiday mugs and quilted things.

I was in the mood to bake, too, so I found this recipe for a small batch of snickerdoodles.
They turned out yummy, even though I made a couple of changes.  I didn't have any cream of tartar, but the blogger said they could be made without it, and I added extra cinnamon because Mike is a big fan of cinnamon.  The recipe said it made just 6, but I got a dozen out of it.

See Rudolph on my mug up there?  I love Rudolph, the song, and the TV movie that came out in the 60s.  That was always a favorite of mine, and have watched it all these years.  I think it sends a good message about using your gifts, and that it's okay to be different.

Mike and I were talking about favorite Christmas movies, and, of course, being a guy, he says, "Die Hard!"  But we've also enjoyed "The Santa Clause" and "Christmas Vacation." On Disnry+ we've been watching the series "The Santa Clauses," just for fun.  It's pretty silly, but has grown on me.  Santa (still played by Tim Allen) wants to retire, but has to find a replacement Santa first.

We had a really nice Thanksgiving trip.  Good weather for a road trip, and good visits with our kids.  It's hard to get either of my boys to let me take any pictures of them, but I did manage to get one of older son.

At younger son's place, we went to the town's Christmas Light Parade and it was so fun and sweet!  Lots of farm vehicles all lit up!

This afternoon, I'm going to visit and stitch with my friend who is still recovering from a bad knee injury.  I found another free wintery embroidery design from All People Quilt that I decided to prep to take along.   There are three snowman designs in the set, called Snow Buddies.  Find them HERE.

Have a great day, everyone!

That snowy scene looks absolutely beautiful and yes, perfect time to get out the Christmas decorations. I love the Rudolph movie and used to watch it as a child and will still sit down happily to watch it now. Thanks for the stitchery link.

I love Bird Brain Designs and your Snow Buddies will be cute. Nice picture of you and your eldest. The farm machinery in the lighted parade reminded me of the Corn Days Parade in Loveland that we accidentally caught one year. So fun and so American (to me)! Rats! I forgot about The Santa Clause movies. We love them too!!

Family Thanksgivings are the best! We went to one son's family in Arkansas and will see the other at Christmas, along with the grands and one great.

the snow looks pretty it would put me in the Xmas mood -- how funny about Die Hard because that is one of my favorites and hubby has no interest in xmas movies!! I also like Tim Allen's Santa Clause and I like the Home Alone. glad you got to see your sons

Hi Diann! That snow does look pretty, and it does help with the festive mood, too. Yes, the movie Rudolph was on just this week. I tried to watch it and it said it wasn't available for streaming on CBS. Okay. Then I tried Paramount+ and couldn't see it there, either. Later, I guess. It is one of my favorites, too. Yay for a picture of you with your son! I have the same issues here. I don't think I have a single picture of Andrea holding Chase - she wants to lose weight. Geez! The kid is going to think you didn't love him because there's no pictures of the two of you. Someday, they are going to WISH they had a picture taken with you and DH, too. HA - I love the tractors all bedecked for the lighting parade. How fun. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Oh my gosh I cackled when I read Mike's choice of Christmas movies - LOL! I really enjoy your neighborhood seasonal photos, but I have to say the snow ones are the prettiest to me. I love that sweet photo of you with your son - you never age! Decorated tractors - what fun! :D

Snow here this morning too! Maybe two inches, but very wet! Good news for fire-prone northern CA. When we discussed Christmas movires a couple of days ago, Die Hard was mentioned too! Men!, :).
Thanks to you and LeeAnna , I’ll get out the Christmas mugs I brought to our son’s house, I have a great many pairs and will leave him 4, to use as desired.
Enjoy stitching with your friend. Hope she is doing better every day. And thanks for the Snow Buddies link. I’ll download it to add to my library when I get home.

HA! A tractor decorated in Christmas lights is almost a parade all by itself!

What a view. I lived in Minneapolis back in the 80's for a few years and loved the sparkle the new snow had when the morning sun hit it after a fresh snow. The snickerdoodles in a small batch sound delightful. I have a recipe I have used for years, doubled of course that are a favorite. I always added a pinch of nutmeg to both the flour when I was measuring and to the cinnamon sugar I rolled them in. I always found the best results were with triple sifting the flour and chilling the dough, and never using a hot cookie sheet, but letting the cookie sheet cool completely between batches. (I just bought more cookie sheets!!). I'd love to bake a big batch, but then the temptation to eat what I shouldn't would be the battle. I'll admire yours and save the diabetic shock! Great memories though. Mary / https://stitchinggrandma.wordpress.com//

Pretty snow! Snickerdoodles! Haven't made them in a while, but that's always a nice cookie. I used to be scared of Rudolph when I was little (the Abominable Snowman freaked me out!). LOL - I love that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Lighted tractors! Very cool.

You’ve got me wanting to bake cookies, which means I need to figure out why the oven isn’t working. Good excuse. :-)

How did I miss you picked up cross stitching! Every time I come across a cross stitched penguin I think of you! And now you are stitching one.Very cute little guy too. I adore your Autumn Jubilee runner, but I think you know that already. Meanwhile, lovely photo there, so nice to see you both. Snickerdoodles are so good, like a comfort cookie really. Thanks for that link too.
We've had rain and lost all the snow. So back to just grey, LOL.
